Cooper Webb WINS in Detroit!
Round six of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season in Ford Field, Detroit, produced yet again another chaotic night of racing.
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb grabbed his first win of the season and his 26th career victory. Webb’s consistency to start the season put him in a prime position as the series moved east, and the victory in Detroit has now tied him level with the series points leader Chase Sexton, meaning they both will hold the red plate in Arlington.
Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen would lead much of the 20-minute plus one lap main event, with Webb following closely behind. After defending many attacks from the #2, Roczen would surrender the lead in the final minutes of the race, and finish in second place. A much-needed bounce back for the #94, after his disastrous night in Ramond James Stadium hit his championship pursuit massively. Roczen is now third in points, sixteen points behind Sexton & Webb heading into round seven.
Chase Sexton bounced back to claim third overall after a bizarre opening lap. The series points leader got stuck in the starting gate and fell shortly after, putting him dead last with the competition racing away. A hard-fought effort through the pack to claim the final podium spot was good enough for Sexton to retain his red plate, all be it now being shared with Cooper Webb.
Malcolm Stewart looks to have found some confidence after his historic win in Tampa. Fourth place in Detroit is a solid showing for the Floridian and puts him fifth in the points standings.
Justin Cooper made it back-to-back top five finishes in Ford Field, the first time in his premier supercross career. The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider now sits sixth in points.
Phoenix Racing Honda’s Dylan Ferrandis finished in eighth place, his best finish of the season. Good ride for the Frenchman after missing the previous round due to a practice crash leading up to Tampa.
Colt Nichols was another rider with a season best performance in Detroit, finishing in eleventh place. The HEP Motorsports Suzuki rider entered the season not fully ‘100%’ and is making steady progress towards the top ten.
Jerry Robin’s fifteenth was a career best in the premier class, great night all round for Jerry, who qualified for the main event directly through his heat race! Kevin Moranz qualified for his fourth main event of the season, finishing in a season best eighteenth.
Shout out to Gizmo Mods Rock River Yamaha’s Grant Harlan for qualifying for his first main event of the season after winning the LCQ.
Rides Unlimited Racing’s Anthony Rodriguez made it three main events in a row, for the first time of his career. A-Rod only started riding a week before Anaheim 1 and has shown impressive improvement as we progress through the series.
