The Deegan-Beaumer rivalry is heating up after this weekend’s antics in Anaheim. Whilst
Deegan has struggled throughout the first two rounds of the season, Julien ‘Juju’ Beaumer’s
start has been a complete contrast. Fresh off his first main event victory in San Diego, and
heading into Anaheim 2 with the points lead, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider could
not have asked for a better start to the season.
In the second 250SX West heat race, Deegan made an aggressive racing pass in which
Beaumer would ultimately fall, losing the lead to Deegan. Beaumer was also docked 2
positions for jumping on a red cross flag during the heat. Shortly after the aggressive pass,
Deegan avoided disaster when tripling into a rhythm section. As he lost traction coming out
of the exit of the turn, he showed extreme strength to keep his motorcycle on two wheels!
The main event displayed what most expected from Deegan coming into the series. He got
off to a great start, pulling the holeshot and leading every lap of the main event to pick up his
first victory of the year. Beaumer showed Deegan a wheel in the second corner, but he was
ultimately second best on the night. In true Deegan fashion, he vocalised on the podium that
Juju “ran his mouth” which fuelled his motivation to put an end to the momentum Juju has
created so far. Although this is par for the course from the Deegan camp, Beaumer seems to
be unfazed by any of these antics and seems to be aware not to feed into the back-and-forth
exchanges.
Cole Davies rounded off the 3 rd and final spot on the podium. Davies benefited from Jordon
Smith’s last lap crash exiting the whoops, when making a last-ditch effort to catch Beaumer.
The 17-year-old New Zealander has impressed throughout the start of 2025, and the podium
at Anaheim 2 marks his first in three starts. This weekend’s 250SX podium included three
teenagers, the first time since 2011 we have had an all-teen podium!

Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX Yamaha rider Coty Schock continued to build on his solid start to the
season. Schock won the opening heat race of the night and finished 5 th place in the main
event. With the current injury status of the class, opportunities are certainly opening for
Schock to close in on his first career podium. Next weekend’s Triple Crown offers up a
perfect opportunity for Schock to find himself in the mix for a podium finish.
Amateur prospect Drew Adams made his debut for the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawaski
team. The original plan was for Adams to race the SMX Next (formally known as SX
Futures) rounds, starting next weekend in Glendale. However, with injures to teammates
Garrett Marchbanks and Ty Masterpool, the door has been opened for Adams to jump into
the pro ranks. Adams finished 5 th position in his heat race and finished the main event in 8 th
place, which is a respected effort in only his first attempt at racing professional SX. Adams
has had great success in the SMX Next program, picking up three wins in five races,
however with the dark cloud that has loomed over the Pro Circuit team this year, the main
aim is for the #98 is to get through these rounds healthy!
Hunter Yoder had another solid 10 th place finish in the main event. The Partzilla PRMX rider
stated on social media he was battling illness, with that considered, Yoder and the team
should be pretty stocked on the back-to-back top ten finishes.
SLR Honda’s Parker Ross had his best main event to date. Ross is one of many rookies
racing the 250SX West Region and started the main event of in an impressive fashion.

Getting off to a great start, Ross found himself upfront early, running inside the top six for
around ten minutes of the fifteen-minute main event! Although Ross would finish up in 12 th
place (which sets his current career best finish!), he certainly turned a few heads with his
ride at Angel Stadium. #302 fastest lap time during the main event (1:00:805) was the fifth
fastest lap of the race! Pretty cool to see more of the lesser-known rookies, showing their
speed upfront early on!
Gavin Towers also had his best night to date at Anaheim 2. Riding for the Phoenix Racing
Honda team, Towers did not qualify directly from his heat race; however, he earned his
position in the main event with a win in the LCQ (last chance qualifier). His 15 th place finish in
the main event is his best finish to date, in his first three SX races.
Collin Jurin qualified for his first 250SX main event since Seattle, 2014! Young Canadian
rider Preston Masciangelo made his first main event of his career, representing the AJE Gas
Gas team.

The series is now leaving California and heading towards Arizona, for Round 4 of the
Monster Energy AMA Supercross season, and marks the first Triple Crown of the year. Who
are your picks heading into Glendale?
