Cowboy Stadium, “the house that Jerry built”, and home of the legendary Dallas Cowboys NFL football team. But today, it’s Monster Energy AMA Supercross! Ryan Villopoto has won the 450 Main Event here in Dallas. Davi Millsaps finishes second and retains the series points lead. James Stewart DNS. And Dean Wilson wins the first 250 East Main Event of the season tonight.

One of the top contenders in the East should be two time FIM World Motocross Champion (MX2 in 2009, 2010) Marvin Musquin. Marvin says “I’ve learned a lot last year, riding the west coast championship. This year I have more experience, better training, and only one goal – to win! It won’t be easy, there are good riders like Dean Wilson, Wil Hahn, Blake Wharton … and others, but I’m really confident. I know I have done a good training during the winter. I’ve been training with Ryan Dungey and Ken Roczen, and I have a good lap time reference with them. The whole team have been working really hard, testing went very well, now I’m just looking forward to ride Saturday.”

Cowboy Stadium is one of the most high-tech stadiums in the world. It’s something you have to experience at least once for yourself. You can spend an afternoon just walking around the facility and taking in all that it offers.

450 Qualifying: Each class has three opportunities to practice. The first one is ‘free’ practice – no timing. The second two practice are timed for Qualifying. In the second 450 practice, which is the first one that’s timed, and with the quickest lap time so far, James Stewart crashed hard. He and his bike cart-wheeled over the last couple of bumps heading into a tight left hand corner. James hit the ground hard, and then, the bike followed right with him and hit him as both went to the ground. His quickest lap of the day, and 450 Qualifying so far – 45.1 seconds. In the second practice, the quickest lap time, and best overall, went to Davi Millsaps, with a lap of 44.65. James Stewart did make it out for this qualifying session, and he’s second overall in Qualifying time – 44.78. Then Ryan Dungey, Ryan Villopoto, Justin Barcia, Trey Canard, Justin Brayton, Chad Reed, Broc Tickle, and Matt Goerke (46 seconds) round out the top ten.

Davi Millsaps - fastest qualifier

Davi Millsaps

250 East Heat 1 – 7:40pm. It’s Marvin Musquin and Gavin Faith up front! This race will go six laps. Wil Hahn goes past Musquin … then goes past Faith. Running order at the halfway point Hahn, Faith, Musquin.

Now those top three tighten up! Faith goes to pass back Hahn. And Musquin goes to pass both! And then a few corners later Hahn goes down!

At the finish of an exciting race, it’s Gavin Faith winning, Musquin second, and James DeCotis third.

250 East Heat 2 – 7:53pm. Zach Bell with a nice holeshot … while a few riders go down in the first corner, and a few other riders go outside the track barriers in the first corner.

Fifth lap – Zach Bell is leading nicely. And then he goes down hard. The race is red-flagged. He came off the bike mid-air – and hit the ground hard.

Dean Wilson was running second when Zach Bell crashed. He will start in the first position with just two laps remaining when this six lap race gets restarted in single file. Blake Wharton is tenth in line …

It became an easy win for Dean Wilson – he held his lead for the remaining two laps. Second is Vince Friese, third goes to L Kilbarger.

There was a strange crash literally at the checkered flag, involving a few riders. Blake Wharton is scored with a 15th, which means he’ll have to go to the LCQ.

450 Heat 1 – 8:17pm. A lot of big names in this eight lap heat race. Stewart, Reed, Canard, Villopoto. At the end of the long starting straight, it’s Ryan Villopoto with the lead! James Stewart is second. Josh Hill a ways back in third. Let’s see if Stewart has anything for Villopoto …

The track looks a bit slippery, rutted, and one-lined in place from high up here in the press box. Stewart has closed a bit on Villopoto … and the two of them are light years ahead of third place Weston Peick.

On lap four, Stewart goes inside of a tight right hand corner and makes the pass on Villopoto for the lead! As he goes over the next jump, JS7 casually rips a tear off in mid-air.

Running order halfway point – Stewart, Villopoto, Justin Brayton, Peick, Chad Reed, Andrew Short, Broc Tickle, Josh Hill. Trey Canard is 11th.

The finish sees James Stewart winning. Ryan Villopoto is second. Then Brayton, Peick, Reed, Short, Tickle, Hill, and Canard ninth.

450 Heat 2 – 8:32pm. This heat will have Davi Millsaps, Ryan Dungey and Justin Barcia among others. The leader exiting the first corner – Mike Alessi! And a few more riders exit the track on the outside of the first corner as they go too wide …

Alessi leading, Davi Millsaps chasing. Dungey is fifth. Barcia is 15th.

On lap two, Millsaps overtakes Alessi for the lead.

Halfway point – Millsaps comfortably out front. Alessi a ways back in second. Dungey in third.

On lap six, Dungey moves past Alessi and into second. It’s Millsaps, Dungey, Alessi. Barcia struggling in 14th.

This race has series points leader Davi Millsap winning. Ryan Dungey second. Mike Alessi third. Justin Barcia finishes 12th. He’ll have to go to the LCQ.

The 250 LCQ. Only two riders will make it to the main event from this four lap race. Believe it or not, even after his horrific crash in his heat – Zach Bell is on the line for this race.

Blake Wharton number 13 on the Rockstar Suzuki with the holeshot. And at the completion of lap two – Zach Bell has moved into second!

And that’s how they finish – Blake Wharton wins, Zach Bell second.

450 LCQ. This race will go six laps. Two will transfer into the main event. And it’s Justin Barcia with the holeshot! Justin Barcia will lead all the way to the checkered, with Chris Blose finishing second.

15 Lap 250 East Main Event – 9:34pm. It’s number 50 with the lead – Kyle Peters. And sadly, Marvin Musquin is involved in a crash in the first corner – and gets going again in dead last.

Dean Wilson has already made his move into the lead by the end of the first lap. Blake Wharton has moved into second. Peters third.

Lap 5 of this race – Dean Wilson has already stretched out a nice lead. Blake Wharton is four seconds back. Peters still third. Wil Hahn is fifth. Justin Hill sixth. Zach Bell eighth. Marvin Musquin up to 11th!

Now ten laps in – Dean Wilson is leading. He looks strong. Blake Wharton is second. Kyle Peters running a nice third. Next is Wil Hahn. He’s followed by Justin Hill. Gavin Faith is sixth. And Marvin Musquin has come all the way up to seventh!

At the finish, it’s Dean Wilson with the first win of the ‘East Coast’ series. Second place goes to Blake Wharton, and third is Wil Hahn. (Full results below.)

20 Lap 450 Main Event – 10:04pm. The riders have done their ‘sight’ lap. Except for James Stewart. Unbelievable. James Stewart will not race this race. He’s on the start line – with no motorcycle. He’s telling the crowd his clutch broke – and he won’t be riding. Obviously, James is bummed. Strange, strange news … bike broken before the race even starts.

10:06 the gate drops. It’s Chad Reed entering the first corner in first, but it’s Ryan Villopoto leading as they exit the first corner. The running order – Villopoto, Reed, Millsaps, Dungey, Alessi.

Ryan Villopoto is trying to get away quickly. He’s stretching his lead. Meanwhile, there is a nice three-way battle for second – it’s Reed, Millsaps, and Dungey. Something is going to happen here …

Towards the end of lap four, Millsaps makes a move inside on a tight right hand corner to overtake Reedy.

Running order on lap five – RV, Millsaps, Reedy, Dungey, Brayton, Alessi, Goerke, Barcia, Short, Albertson, Tickle, Canard.

At the halfway point – ten laps in. Villopoto, Millsaps, Reed, Dungey, Brayton,

On lap 15, Ryan Dungey makes an inside move on Chad Reed to overtake Reed for third. The running order – Ryan Villopoto first, Davi Millsaps second, Ryan Dungey third, Chad Reed fourth, and Justin Brayton fifth. Justin Barcia and Trey Canard are sixth and seventh.

Ryan Villopoto has won this race! It’s the best he can do in trying to retain the number 1 plate. Second place is Davi Millsaps, who retains the 2013 series points lead. Right behind him in third place is Ryan Dungey. Fourth goes to Chad Reed. (Full results below.)

Davi Millsaps leads Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto in points, 154 to 133 to 130, as the series head to Atlanta, Georgia next Saturday night.
