Round 17, the finale of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, in Las Vegas. Ryan Dungey wins Supercross Main Event, and Justin Barcia dominates 250 Lites racing, winning both the East Main Event, and the East / West Shoot-out! Eli Tomac wins 250 Lites West main event.

All results and points will be at bottom of page at end of night, because this event has a very different format compared to all the other supercross events.

Warm and sunny day in Las Vegas! A sold-out Sam Boyd Stadium!

250 West Lites qualifying – Ryan Sipes on top with 1:04:63, followed by two-time World Motocross Champion in MX 2 Marvin Musquin at 1:04:07, Lites Outdoor National MX Champion Dean Wilson next at 1:04:72, Supercross West Champion Eli Tomac 1:05:02.

250 East Lites qualifying – Kenny Roczen on top with a blistering 1:03:28, followed by Malcolm Stewart at 1:04:67, then Justin Bogle 1:04:95, Blake Baggett 1:05:02, then Blake Wharton, East SX Champ Justin Barcia, and Kyle Cunningham. Ken Roczen had the fastest time of anyone, 250 or 450.

450 Supercross Class qualifying – Justin Brayton is the top qualifier, with 1:03.42. Davi Millsaps next at 1:03.54, Nico Izzi is third at 1:03.59. Then Jake Weimer, Ryan Dungey, Broc Tickle, and Nick Wey.

Opening ceremonies started at 7:15, with the introduction of team-mates, and East and West Supercross Champions Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac. Then Ryan Dungey was introduced. Then Justin Brayton came out to the crowd. Next was Davi Millsaps. Then a huge blast of fireworks. Then, the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series Champion Ryan Villopoto came out, on his Kawasaki KXF 450, wearing shorts, a casual shirt, a cap, and a knee brace, riding slowly around the track, waving to the crowd. (Ryan had surgery on his knee Monday, and is out of racing for a period of time.) At 7:30, the Star Spangled Banner (National Anthem of the USA) was sung.

The first race of the night after opening ceremonies – the 250 Lites East Main Event!

250 Lites East 15 Lap Main Event: 7:32pm. As soon as the National Anthem is done – they come rocketing into the stadium! Justin Barcia number 1 in the lead! Kenny Roczen is second, Blake Baggett is third. This track has a section that goes outside of the stadium. The riders literally rocket back into the stadium down a long straight that is probably the fastest of the entire series.

Justin Barcia is nicely out front five laps in. Ken Roczen is about three second back. Blake Baggett in third, five seconds behind Roczen. Malcolm Stewart running fourth. The top two (Barcia and Roczen) have broken into the 1 minute 2 second lap time range.

Lap ten, Barcia makes a small bobble, and Roczen has closed up right behind him. But Barcia does pull away just a bit. They are 1.5 seconds apart.

As the race comes to a close, Barcia has pulled out a bit of a lead, just over 3 seconds, on Roczen. The finish has Justin Barcia winning, Ken Roczen second, Blake Baggett third, Malcolm Stewart fourth.

250 Lites West 15 Lap Main Event: it’s Eli Tomac, riding with the red plated number 17 Honda with the lead as they enter the stadium! Martin Davalos is second, Jason Anderson third, Marvin Musquin fourth, and Wil Hahn fifth.

Tomac is leading as they start lap four, Anderson has moved into second, and Dean Wilson is moving up. He’s now in fourth. The running order – Tomac, Anderson, Davalos, Wilson, Musquin, and Hahn.

Tomac has a nice lead – just over four seconds on Davalos. Wilson has moved into third. Then Anderson, Musquin and Hahn.

Lap ten – Eli Tomac is leading Dean Wilson by about five seconds, and pulling away. Martin Davalos is third. Then Wil Hahn, Jason Anderson, Marvin Musquin, and Matt Moss.

Tomac is going to do what his GEICO teammate did – win. Eli Tomac wins the West Main Event! Dean Wilson finishes second, Wil Hahn third. Then Davalos, Anderson, and Musquin.

450 Supercross Heat 1 – 8:32pm. Davi Millsaps number 18 on the Joe Gibbs Racing MX Yamaha out front. He’s chased by Jake Weimer, and Andrew Short.

Five laps into this eight lap race – it’s Davi Millsaps leading, Jake Weimer in second, and Andrew Short third, Broc Tickle fourth.

Millsaps is stretching out his lead over Weimer, and Weimer is pulling away a bit from Shorty. Tickle fourth, and Josh Grant is fifth.

The race win belongs to Davi Millsaps! Second is Jake Weimer, third Andrew Short, and right behind Shorty at the finish is Broc Tickle.

450 Supercross Heat 2 – It’s number 800 Mike Alessi with the lead! Justin Brayton is giving chase, and Nico Izzi is third. Ryan Dungey is fourth as they start the second lap.

At the very end of lap two, on a tight right hand corner before the finish line, Brayton goes inside Alessi and into the lead. Lap three running order – Brayton, M Alessi, Nico Izzi, Dungey, and Justin Sipes fifth.

Brayton is looking good up front, pulling out a lead, and Izzi is moving up – he’s second now. Then it’s Alessi and Dungey. On lap five, Dungey passes Alessi in the same corner that Brayton put the move on Alessi.

Top three on lap six – Brayton, Izzi, Dungey. Then Nico Izzi goes down. As they start lap seven of eight, it’s Brayton leading Dungey by almost five seconds, with Mike Alessi in third, then Brett Metcalfe.

The finish – it’s Justin Brayton with the win! Ryan Dungey is second, Mike Alessi third. Brett Metcalfe is fourth, and Nico Izzi remounts to finish fifth.

250 Lites East/West 10 lap Shoot-Out – This will be the first time this year that riders from the West (Tomac, Wilson, Musquin) will get to battle riders from the East (Barcia, Roczen, Wharton). Should be exciting, especially as team-mates face off for the first time this season (Tomac and Barcia, Musquin and Roczen).

9:57pm. The gate drops. And it’s Justin Barcia with the holeshot! He’s being chased by Martin Davalos and Kenny Roczen! Marvin Musquin is next!

As they settle, it’s Barcia out front, riding with the number one plate. Martin Davalos is next, Eli Tomac has moved into third. Kenny Roczen is next, then Marvin Musquin. Davalos and Tomac are closing on Barcia!

Lap four – Davalos makes the pass on Barcia for the lead on the outside part of the track! It’s Davalos, Barcia, Tomac, and Roczen.

Lap six – Davalos lead Barcia by just bike lengths. And in the middle of the lap – Barcia makes the pass as Davalos bobbles just a bit. And then Eli Tomac goes by Davalos as well. The GEICO Honda team has dominated 250 Lites in Supercross this season, with their two champions (Barcia and Tomac).

It’s the two teammates battling head to head for the first time this season – Barcia the East SX Champ, Tomac the West SX Champ. Barcia leading on lap eight, Tomac right behind him!

The unique East / West shoot out win goes to … Justin Barcia! Eli Tomac finishes second. Martin Davalos is third, Kenny Roczen fourth, and Marvin Musquin fifth.

450 Supercross 20 lap Main Event – It’s Mike Alessi with the holeshot, Ryan Dungey right behind! Before the end of the first lap though – it’s Ryan Dungey already with a big lead! Alessi is second, Brett Metcalfe third as they start the second lap.

Running order on lap three – Dungey out front, Metcalfe has moved into second, Alessi third, and Jake Weimer is fourth.

While Ryan Dungey is out front, lots of action behind him. By lap eight, Jake Weimer has moved into second! Davi Millsaps is next, then Brett Metcalfe, Nico Izzi, and Justin Brayton. Dungey is cruising out front …

Ryan Dungey is leading by a large margin. Making it look easy. Davi Millsaps and Jake Weimer are battling. Millsaps now is second on lap 12. Weimer third. Justin Bryaton into fourth, and then Metcalfe.

Lap 17 – Dungey heading towards his third win of the season, racing the KTM 450. Davi Millsaps is in second, quite a ways back. Then it’s Justin Brayton, and Jake Weimer. Josh Grant now rounds out the top five.

This 20 lap Supercross Main Event win goes to Ryan Dungey! Second Davi Millsaps, third Justin Brayton.
