Trey Canard wins Dallas Supercross! Ryan Villopoto takes back points lead. Dean Wilson wins 250 Lites East Regional race. It’s Round 13 of the 2011 AMA Supercross Series in Arlington, Texas, just outside of Dallas, in magnificent Cowboys Stadium

Cowboys Stadium

Cowboys Stadium is home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys football team. But today, Supercross has invaded!

In timed practice for the 250 Lites East, out of the top 40 riders, Dean Wilson had the quickest lap of 50.80 seconds. Second Ryan Sipes at 50.93, then Blake Baggett 51.66, Malcolm Stewart 51.79, Justin Barcia 52.11, Matt Lemoine 52.75, and PJ Larsen at 53.14.

In Supercross class timed practice, the top qualifier with the quickest lap is James Stewart at 48.73 seconds, Chad Reed second at 49.01, Trey Canard with 49.24, Ryan Dungey at 49.26, Kevin Windham 49.68 and Ryan Villopoto 49.82 are the top out of the group of 40 riders.

250 East Qualifying Heat 1: For Supercross 2011 in this ‘opulent’ stadium, there is a long starting straight. And the leader coming out of the first corner is Blake Wharton! But a couple hundred yards later, in the next corner, a tight left hander, Wharton goes down. Ryan Sipes is in the lead!

As they complete lap two, it is Ryan Sipes with the lead. Matt Lemoine is second. T Bright is third. Justin Sipes is next. Wharton is up to tenth. Malcolm Stewart is 11th.

Even being here in person, it’s hard not to watch the ‘big screen’ TV, which when this stadium was built, was the largest in the world. It still could be … it really is something to see.

This six lap race goes to Ryan Sipes! Second place is Matt Lemoine. Third place goes to Jason Anderson. H Hewitt is next, then Justin Sipes. M Stewart gets sixth. B Wharton gets eighth.

250 East Qualifying Heat 2: It looked almost like a tie in the first corner between Blake Baggett and Justin Barcia. But Baggett emerges one corner later with a lead … Barcia second. Five corner later, Dean Wilson goes past Barcia. Then about a lap later … Barcia returns the favor and passes Wilson back.

As they start lap three, it’s Blake Baggett out front. Justin Barcia is second. Dean Wilson is third.

Blake Baggett is out front, looking comfortable and confident. He’s got a nice lead too. Then Justin Barcia, Dean Wilson, Alex Martin, T Futrell, L Vincent, A Catanzaro.

The race win goes to Blake Baggett! Second Justin Barcia. Third Dean Wilson. Alex Martin finishes fourth. T Futrell fifth.

Supercross class Qualifying Heat 1: Again, almost looks like a tie between the top two guys into the first corner between Chad Reed and Ryan Villopoto, but Villopoto emerges with the lead. He’s followed by Reed. Dungey is challenging Reed and passes! At the end of lap though, Reed passes Dungey back in the corner before the finish line jump!

Villopoto has a nice lead out front. Dungey must of went down or had a problem – he’s dropped to fifth on this third lap. Villopoto leading, Chad Reed about three seconds back, Austin Stroupe into third.

As they complete lap four of this eight lap race Villopoto is the leader, Reed second and now it’s Cole Seely into third. Dungey is fourth. Stroupe fifth. Brayton is next, followed by Thomas Hahn.

At the end of this race, taking the checkered flag, is Ryan Villopoto! Finishing almost 12 second behind, and taking second place is defending Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey. Third place with a nice ride is Cole Seely. Reedy must of had a problem on those last laps, as he drops back to finish fourth. Fifth is Austin Stroupe.

Supercross class Qualifying Heat 2: Going into, and thru the first corner, it’s Ivan Tedesco with the lead, but exiting the first corner it’s Trey Canard with the lead! James Stewart quickly moves into second. Tedesco is third, then Mike Alessi and Kyle Regal.

Stewart is chasing Canard hard. Canard is holding off the charge of Stewart here on lap three. Stewart pulls even in a tight left hand corner, but Canard hold the lead! Then, in the first corner, which is a bit loose and sandy, Stewart passes Canard on the inside on lap four.

James Stewart is slowly staring to pull away from Canard. And the two of them are far ahead of third place Tedesco. Then Regal, Andrew Short, Nick Wey, M Alessi, Davi Millsaps, Vince Friese, Tye Simmonds. Kevin Windham is out of the race.

James Stewart wins this race. Trey Canard finishes second behind James. Third goes to Ivan Tedesco. Andrew Short finishes fourth. Kyle Regal is fifth.

In the Supercross LCQ, Kevin Windham wins to make it into the Supercross Main Event.

250 Lites East 15 Lap Main Event: After the long starting straight, this first corner is one of the ‘best’ the series has seen so far. In almost every race, someone gets into that first corner first, and someone else exits the turn first! In this case, Ryan Sipes goes into, and thru the first corner first, but Justin Barcia exits the turn leading Ryan Sipes!

At the end of lap one it’s Justin Barcia, Ryan Sipes, Dean Wilson, Blake Wharton, and Matt Lemoine.

At the end of lap two, Sipes passes Barcia for the lead! It’s now Sipes, Barcia, Wilson, Wharton, Lemoine, M Stewart. Baggett is in 12th.

On lap five, in a tight left hand corner, Barcia executes a perfect block pass on R Sipes to take over the lead. That was close racing! So, the leading positions as we finish lap five – Barcia, Sipes, Dean Wison, Blake Wharton, Matt Lemoine, Malcolm Stewart.

The next lap, exiting the same corner he was passed on, Ryan Sipes goes a bit wide, into the track markers and falls. The running order now on lap eight is Barcia out front, but being chased by Dean Wilson. Third belongs to Blake Wharton.

Lap ten it’s Barcia in front, chased by Wilson. Wharton in third. Matt Lemoine fourth. Malcolm Stewart fifth. Dean Wilson is about two seconds behind Justin Barcia.

Lap 13, tight right hand corner that leads back to the start straight, Wilson makes his move on Barcia for the lead! They are just about even! But Barcia maintains the lead!

Now on the last lap, they are close. In a 90 degree left hander, Wilson cuts to the inside, standing on the pegs, and takes over first place from Barcia! They are close and Dean Wilson holds on to the lead and win on the last lap! Justin Barcia is second! Almost unnoticed is Blake Wharton who takes third. Malcolm Stewart with his best ride of his professional career finishes fourth. Fifth goes to Matt Lemoine.

Justin Barcia retains the series points lead over Dean Wilson as the series heads to St. Louis next weekend!

Dean Wilson says: This win means so much. I just kept pushing and I never gave up. I’d like to thank everyone that helped make this possible. I had one last chance to pass Justin, and I went for it. Thanks to everyone that was cheering for me!

Supercross 20 Lap Main Event: It’s Mike Alessi with the holeshot! But halfway into the first lap, Trey Canard already has a big lead! Chad Reed is into second, James Stewart third, Ryan Dungey fourth, and Ryan Villopoto fifth. The top five guys in supercross are all up front!

Round 13 - AMA/FIM Supercross Series 2011 - Arlington/Dallas - Photo 8 of 76

Lap three – Canard nice lead out front. Stewart has passed Reed. Dungey is behind those two. And Villopoto close in fifth.

Lap four – Reed closes in on Stewart and makes the tight pass in a left hand corner. We have Trey Canard with a big lead out front, Chad Reed is second. James Stewart is third about sixth bike lengths behind Reed. Ryan Dungey is next, chasing Stewart. And Villopoto has a bird’s eye view of them!

Lap seven – Trey Canard is leading. Chad Reed is in second, about three seconds behind. James Stewart is in third, Ryan Dungey is in fourth and Villopoto is in fifth. Something’s bound to happen with these guys, especially second thru fifth, being so close together.

Lap nine. Stewart goes to pass Reed in the same left hand corner that lots of action has been happening in tonight. As Stewart head to the inside of the corner, he gets out of control over a bump, loses control and plows straight into Reed, knocking Reed off the track and putting both of them on the ground!

Lap 11 – Dungey takes a little spill, but remounts quickly. A lot of action in front of a big crowd here in Arlington, which is part of Dallas.

Lap 12 – Trey Canard is leading this Supercross Main Event, and looking good. Ryan Villopoto, although way back (nine seconds), is in second place. Ryan Dungey is in third. James Stewart is in fourth. Kevin Windham has moved into fifth. Andrew Short is sixth.

Another crazy race in this 2011 Supercross Season. Top guys having unexpected nights (like Stewart getting out of control and crashing himself and Chad Reed).

Round 13 - AMA/FIM Supercross Series 2011 - Arlington/Dallas - Photo 9 of 76

The winner of this race, in front of over 51,000 enthusiastic fans – Trey Canard! Great ride by Trey, it’s his third main event win of the season. Second place goes to Ryan Villopoto. And Villopoto will take over the points lead! Third place goes to Ryan Dungey. Fourth is James Stewart – even after crashing. Kevin Windham gets fifth. Chad Reed finishes eighth.

Ryan Villopoto has taken over the points lead. And wonder what’s happening in the ‘relationship’ between James Stewart and Chad Reed after their ‘get together’ tonight?

Trey Canard says: I’m so grateful. There are so many people from my home and that I grew up with. I have to give it all up to the Lord Jesus Christ. I knew I needed a good start. I knew it would be hard to put in 20 good laps. The whoops were so tough. Gotta’ give a shout out to all you Oakies out here!

Ryan Villopoto says: The track was crazy. I had an OK start. Just kept on plugging away. Some things worked out in my favor. It’s awesome to be back in the points lead.

Ryan Dungey says: Felt great tonight. Got a good start tonight. Had a little mistake over in one section, but overall good night.

Villopoto now leads Reed by six points, Dungey by seven, Canard by 16, and Stewart by 21, as the series heads to St. Louis for Round 14 next Saturday.
