The AMA Motocross Series had it’s opening press conference in a unique setting – right at the California State Capitol Building in Sacramento!

The hostess getting things started off was Ms. Erin Normoyle. And one of the first speakers was California Assemblyman of the Fifth District, Roger Niello. He talked of how much the opening AMA Motocross at ‘Hangtown’ has been a staple of the area for 42 years, and how it’s help the local economy and how much the fans enjoy it.

The Capital building is set in a park-like area with lots of grass and trees in front. But we know what you really care about – the star athletes and racers!

On hand and speaking to the crowd gathered:

Josh Grant – he’s 100% healthy and ready to go

Mike Alessi – he hasn’t raced an ‘important’ race in almost a year, he’s ready, healthy, and likes his KTM 350

Ben Townley – Ben is back racing after a few seasons of bad luck and injury. He’ll be riding in the 450 class for the Troy Lee / Lucas Oil Honda team

Andrew Short – he’s one of Honda Red Bull’s two factory riders, he’s healthy, …. and they all seemed very anxious to get racing on Saturday!

Next, last year’s MX Champs were introduced. That guy that just won the 450 Supercross title, and was the 2009 250 LItes MX Champ, Ryan Dungey spoke, and HE’s ready to go racing in the 450 Motocross class.

Chad Reed, the reigning Lucas Oil AMA 450 National Motocross Champion spoke about how he’s recently become a father (of two week old Tate) and that becoming a father for the first time is the greatest thing that’s happened in his life. HE’s also ready to go racing!

And Women’s National Motocross Champion, Ashley Fiolek, using sign language to her father Jim, ‘commented’ that she’s been in Florida training a lot, and has been training in California the past three weeks practicing.

We’ll have more for you from Sacramento as we come across what’s happening here! Thanks!
