French MX phenom, Gautier Paulin, has produced a strong result at his home GP held at the spectacular hill-side circuit of St Jean d’Angely.  The 6th round of the series saw Paulin qualify second in Saturday’s qualification race with pole position in the pre-qualification timed session.

Paulin grabbed a good jump out of the gate in race 1 but lost momentum in the  first turn which robbed him of some valuable positions while Cairoli took the hole-shot with Christophe Pourcel in tow.  Choosing his lines wisely and moving up the rankings each lap, Paulin then made a superb pass on Clement Desalle for fourth place.  Team-mate Xavier Boog was running a hot pace and the KRT duo slowly closed in on Pourcel and Cairoli. With 10 minutes to go Paulin upped his speed and moved past Boog for third.  He closed down Pourcel  and Cairoli by posting the fastest lap of the race and then lost no time in passing Pourcel.  Cairoli held off the pressure of the Frenchman quite well and took the victory with Paulin right on his tail for an impressive second place.

For race 2 Paulin again chose the inside gate and had to brake tight. He emerged in 5th and then set about moving his way through the pack.  He passes Desalle, Philippaerts and Frossard and then tried to hunt close down Cairoli.  A lapse in concentration threw Paulin off his machine in a big crash.  He quickly remounted and had to pass Desalle and Philippaerts again however Pourcel managed to protect second place with Cairoli taking victory again.

“It was a good GP for me this weekend and I learned a lot by following Tony in the first moto.  Unfortunately I made a mistake in the second moto and went down hard and it took some time to get back to my bike but I never gave up and pushed through again.  It was tough today but my intention is to fight for every GP until the last round.” Vowed Paulin.

Round 7 will take place next weekend in Portugal.
