Motocross Class Moto 1

The first corner sees Chad Reed exit with the lead, but the leader at the end of the first lap is Mike Alessi.

Soon enough though, Ryan Villopoto has put on a charge, and has taken over the lead, passing both Reed and Alessi. The Supercross Champion is looking good on the well-groomed Budds Creek track.

Defending Motocross Champion Ryan Dungey, riding with the number 1 Suzuki, is also putting on a charge. He’s passed Reed and Alessi as well. The running order now at about the halfway point – Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, Chad Reed, Mike Alessi, Tommy Hahn, Kevin Windham, Davi Millsaps, Brett Metcalfe, Josh Grant, and former 125 National Motocross Champion Mike Brown on a KTM!

This race, like all AMA Pro motocross motos, will go 30 minutes plus two laps. Villopoto is leading, but made a small mistake in a corner at the bottom of a hill, and Dungey is close as we near the end of this race. Reed maintains third, Kevin Windham has moved to fourth, and M Alessi fifth. It’s hot, humid and sunny as this race is going on.

Ryan Villopoto hangs on to win this 17 lap race. Ryan Dungey finishes second, Chad Reed third. Those three are the best of the class by far this season, and all three are either current (Villopoto) or former (Reed 2004, 2008, Dungey 2010) AMA Supercross Series Champions.

Fourth thru tenth in this race: Kevin Windham, Mike Alessi, Brett Metcalfe, Davi Millsaps, Josh Grant, Andrew Short, Jake Weimer.
