450 Motocross: James Stewart is ‘the man’. He won both motos today, and in doing so, has completed the so called ‘Perfect Season’. Although it’s been done before, it’s almost hard to believe – 24 races, 24 wins. The 2008 AMA National Motocross Champion James Stewart – Perfect Season – Undefeated! Out of a possible 600 maximum points to be scored, James scored 600 points!

Tim Ferry finished second in each moto, taking second overall, and, finished second in the final point standings. Third overall today went to ‘local’ rider Broc Hepler, with finishes of 3/3.

250 Motocross Lites: It was Team Suzuki rider Ryan Dungey’s day, as he swept both motos to secure the overall victory today. Second overall went to Ryan’s Suzuki team-mate Nico Izzi, with Honda rider Jake Weimer finishing third overall.

250 Lites Motocross Champion Ryan Villopoto had a tough day: in the first moto he tangled with Nico Izzi, damaged his shift lever, and eventually scored 38th position. In the second moto, it wasn’t much better for the National Champion, he fell on the first lap, and worked up to 16th, for 20th overall on the day.

Notes: From MXSports, MXSports Prepares for 2009 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship

With the significant changes in the operating and management structure of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF, MX Sports would like to announce the following information and timeline as it pertains to the 2009 racing season.

MX Sports is in the process of assembling a team of leaders for 2009, which will include Carrie Russell, John Ayers, Nick McCabe, Tony Gardea, Kristen Young, and Marc Peters. This professional team offers a diverse set of proven management skills. Ayers will continue his role of Operations Director while McCabe will oversee commercial development and the strategic plan. Gardea will focus on event and series public relations and Peters (of Petersbuilt tracks) will focus on working with the promoter track teams to ensure a consistent track maintenance program. In addition, Kristen Young will help develop the marketing and promotions of the series. Russell will oversee the entire program. This team will work closely with the NPG Promoters and the race teams, (both OEM and Private), as well as sponsors and media.

MX Sports is developing a detailed five-year strategic plan that includes a complete review of all aspects of the sport, while respecting the historical traditions of Motocross. The initial report and subsequent changes in competition structure is scheduled to be released during the U.S. Open of Supercross in early October. Representatives from this team will be available at this event to discuss the changes and meet with the media.

In addition, the 2009 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship schedule will be released by mid-September.

About the National Promoters Group (NPG): The National Promoters Group (NPG) comprises 12 individual promoters of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF which sanctions outdoor motocross events throughout the United States, and remains the Nation’s premier outdoor motocross championship series. NPG’s mission is to raise awareness of motocross racing through the production of professional championship racing events nationwide.

This Sunday – Full Amateur Schedule at Steel City

Full Sunday Amateur Day Schedule for Steel City American Motocross Festival this Weekend.

Amateur motocross racers can enjoy a full Sunday of racing this weekend at Steel City Raceway for the first-ever American Motocross Festival, part of the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Pro Motocross National presented by NEXT Financial. Moving Steel City’s pro racing to Saturday opens up a full amateur program the next day, featuring long motos on the same redesigned Steel City track that the pros compete on. A complete list of classes, special contingency awards, and prizes highlight amateur motocross the weekend pro national schedule.

As part of the Dunlop Days promotional weekend, every motorcycle class winner on Sunday will receive a free off-road tire from Dunlop. Second place motorcycle finishers will receive a new set of Scott Goggles. And in a unique twist, third-place motorcycle finishers will receive free passes to the popular Rich’s Fright Farm in Smithfield, Pennsylvania for the Halloween season.

“Due to the expansion of the AMA pro motocross qualifying schedule, we haven’t been able to host amateur racing on a full weekend day at a national in a long time,” said Event Director Tim Cotter. “This year’s American Motocross Festival puts the amateurs on the full track with a full schedule on Sunday. We expect a big turnout.”

The American Motocross Festival features four classes competing in one day on Saturday, August 30th, with practice and qualifying for those classes on Friday, August 29th. The AMA/Toyota Motocross Championship presented by FMF wraps up with the final round of the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross on Saturday. Monster Energy Kawasaki backed riders James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto will each battle for a $25,000 Triple Crown bonus. In addition, the second-annual ATV Open hosts the fastest four-wheeled motocross riders in the world, and the Women’s Motocross Association hosts their final round, with Ashley Fiolek aiming for her first professional championship.
