Ames Breaks Through with First-Career Victory at Night One in Youngstown

Catanzaro leads GPF 1-2 Finish in Arenacross Lites

In the AMA Arenacross Series return to Youngstown, Ohio and the Covelli Centre, the thousands of fans in attendance were witness to a bit of arenacross history when Spinechillers/Storm Lake Hondas Zach Ames, of Prospect, Ohio, captured his first-career AMA Arenacross class victory. GPF/Babbitts Kawasakis A.J. Catanzaro, of Middlefield, Conn., finally found his way to the top of the podium for the first time in the AMA Arenacross Lites class after a season of consistency.

After five rounds of dominance by the Babbitts Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasaki team of points leader Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., and Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, Ames became the first rider in 2010 other than one of the aforementioned Babbitts competitors to win. The key to Ames success began out of the gates when he was able to capitalize on a good start and race at the front of the field in the early stages of the 25-lap main event. While he was challenged throughout, he was able to hold off the advances of his competitors. Demuth was able to keep the Babbitts streak of at least one podium finisher in each race in tact with a runner-up effort while defending champion Jeff Gibson, of Thornville, Ohio garnered just his third podium finish of the season.

Throughout 2010, Catanzaro has been one of the most consistent riders in the AMA Arenacross Lites class. It was only a matter of time before the talented rider made his move to the front of the field and after a stellar start on Friday night, he was able to do so. Catanzaros GPF teammate Daniel Aulsaybrook, from Ortonville, Mich., gave the team a 1-2 sweep while House of Kawasakis Justin Berry made it a 1-2-3 sweep for the green machines in third.

Bowers brought home a sixth-place finish in the AMA Arenacross class, but holds onto the points lead with a 19-point advantage over teammate Johnson, who finished seventh. Foremost Insurance Yamahas Tyler Bright, of Lexington, N.C., leads the AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Regional Championship with just two races remaining by seven points over Wages and Factory Pech Racing Kawasakis Devon Pilkington, of Virginia Beach, Va., who sit tied in second.

Demuth Garners Hard-Earned Victory in Wild Saturday Night from Youngstown

Bright Extends Lites Points Lead in Penultimate Round

After a memorable first night of action in the AMA Arenacross Series return to Youngtown, Ohios Covelli Centre, the worlds best arenacross riders produced one of the most exciting evenings of action in the history of the sport. In the end, Babbitts Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasakis Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, raced to his second AMA Arenacross class win of the season while Foremost Insurance Yamahas Tyler Bright, of Lexington, N.C., captured the AMA Arenacross Lites victory.

The 25-lap AMA Arenacross main event was a showcase of competitiveness for the thousands of Ohio fans. Three riders spent time at the front of the field with Babbitts Monster Energy/Ti Lube Kawasakis Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., grabbing the holeshot and asserting himself at the front of the field in the early stages. Soon after, reigning champion Jeff Gibson, of Thornville, Ohio, made his move to the front in a bid for his first win of the season for Tuf Honda. As the pair battled, Demuth slowly worked his way into the mix along with Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda teammates Nathan Skaggs, of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Zach Ames, of Prospect, Ohio. When all was said and done, Demuth found a way by Gibson and they would cross the line in that order. Ames triumphed in the multi-rider battle for third.

As the gates dropped on the penultimate round of the AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Regional Championship, there was not a single rider on the track who could challenge Bright throughout the 16-lap main event. Jumping out to an early lead, the current class points leader never looked back and made himself the rider to beat in the season finale. Reynard Mods Kawasakis Cory Green, of Nowata, Okla., finished second with Petroleum Site Works Suzukis Chad Wages, of Frederick, Md., in third.

AMA Arenacross class points leader Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., finished eighth on Saturday night and holds a 15-point advantage over teammate Demuth. Bright leads the AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Regional Championship with one race remaining by 12 points over Wages.
