The US Open of Supercross started in Las Vegas in 1998. This year, the event is, as always, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The big name riders will be competing October 9 & 10, with amateur racing on the 11th.
James Stewart will be racing. He’s the current AMA / FIM Supercross Champion. Chad Reed will be racing – he recently won the AMA National Motocross Championship, and has won two AMA Supercross series titles. Ryan Dungey, current AMA West 250 Supercross Champion, and 2009 AMA MX 250 champion, will be racing.
And 1994 East Supercross Lites champion Ezra Lusk will come out of retirement to compete at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open inside Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena October 9-11.
Lusk, who retired in 2004, has 12 AMA Supercross class wins. He will be riding a MB1/Tokyo Mods Suzuki. He says: I am not sure what to expect at this race. I’ve never stopped riding, just racing, so I have had plenty of seat time and excellent training. This is a great opportunity for me to showcase what I have. It’s going to be tough just making it to the main event, but this is a unique race. History shows that the fastest guy doesn’t always win the overall. After retiring from professional racing, Lusk fueled his competitive edge on the amateur tennis circuit in Georgia and Florida, returning to a game he grew up playing.
James Stewart is also the defending US Open champion. He’ll be there! Chad Reed has won the US Open before too – he’ll be there! And see Ryan Dungey – who won 2 championships already this season!
