Here is the official press release from Suzuki:
Rockstar Makita Suzuki reported that championship points leading rider, Mike Alessi, suffered a broken kneecap while practicing in Pennsylvania earlier today. Alessi’s condition and prognosis will be updated as more information becomes available.
And on the morning of June 9, we received this quote from Rockstar Makita Suzuki Supercross / Motocross Team Manager and former World Motocross Champion Roger De Coster:
Mike (Alessi) just came out of surgery. I just spoke with all of them there. Everything went well. And we are happy to hear that there was no ligament damage. Mike was brought into the Trauma department last night because he broke his knee cap while practicing in Pennsylvania. It is hard to say right now when he will be back. But I would say no earlier than 6 weeks. We will see later how he is healing, and then determine the future from there. That’s all the details I have for now.
And later, Suzuki put out another press release, stating the following:
Rockstar Makita Suzuki has reported that championship points leading rider, Mike Alessi, underwent successful left knee surgery this morning. “There was no other damage to the knee beyond the broken kneecap,” said team manager, Roger DeCoster. “The outlook is better than expected, as we thought he was out for the year. It appears now that there’s a good chance he will be able to get back out there racing before the end of this season.” Alessi’s condition and prognosis will be updated as more information becomes available.
