Supercross 2010 Preview (Part 3) – RedBull Honda
The 2010 AMA Supercross Series is getting ready to start! Today in Part 3, we give you Honda Red Bull Racing’s Andrew Short & Davi Millsaps.
Three returning members will make up the 2010 Honda Red Bull Racing team: Andrew Short & Davi Millsaps, both who will be racing the premier 450 class in Supercross and National MX, and defending Women’s National Motocross Champion Ashley Fiolek.
Andrew Short #29
Andrew says: Training for Supercross and Motocross is completely different. Supercross is more of a sprint, more high-end. You have to have really quick reflexes. Riding outdoors is more physically demanding. The thing I like most about racing Supercross is the rhythm and flow of the race. It’s not so wide open and pure speed. It’s a whole other animal from outdoors.
Short seems perfectly matched to his Honda CRF450R. In his hands and under his guidance, the 450 floats over an MX or SX course like a feather. Short is an extraordinarily smooth rider, and maybe that’s one of the reasons he is so seldom on the injured list. But that ease belies his speed, and Short is plenty fast. He and his CRF450 seem to get along particularly well at starts.
“Motocross is a very humbling sport. You always have to treat it with respect, and you always have to give it 100 percent. The changes to the 2010 bike have been awesome, and I think they’re going to work to our advantage in the racing season. My mechanic is Jason Haines. We know what to do and what’s going to work, while some of those other guys are going to struggle with development” says Short.
Davi Millsaps #18
“I think I’m going to be a lot stronger and a lot more mentally prepared in 2010. I know where I need to be. I know the pace I have to go. I know what I have to do – it’s just a matter of going out there and doing the hard work and getting the job done” says Millsaps.
Millsaps also thinks he has the best bike. “The CRF450R is an amazing machine. It’s so small that I feel like a giant on it, but it’s definitely the way to go. I really want to show everyone that I can run in everyone’s faces and stay up front. I want to battle out front, and the Honda is the right bike for me to do that on. Right now we’ve got the bike working well for me, and I’m looking forward to it. My mechanic is Carlos Rivera. The 2010 bike is a lot better for me – they’ve changed a lot of parts to make it better handling, especially the suspension. It’s definitely the best.”
