MX 338
Carmichael wins his 118th, Langston perseveres
250 class: Ricky Carmichael, riding the Makita Suzuki, claimed his third victory of the outdoor season with finishes of 2/1. With today’s win, RC now has 118 AMA wins – the most by any rider in history.
And who is the guy that broke RC’s streak? Chad Reed, riding the Yamaha YZ 450 four-stroke. Chad finished second overall on the day, with moto finishes of 1/2.
Third place went to the amazing hometown hero, John Dowd, riding a Suzuki RM 450 four-stroke. John finished third in both motos!
Notes: James Stewart pulled off the race track in moto 1, and did not come out for moto 2. He was feeling the effects of the heat and humidity, and Kawasaki decided it was in everyone’s best interest that James not risk injury. You might ask ‘What happened to Ricky Carmichael in the first moto?’ since he’s won so many races in a row. He fell while leading, but still finished second. Another local hero, Doug Henry, rode a YZ 250 two-stroke, and finished 6/6! We don’t want to say those local Southwick guys (Dowd and Henry) are old, but, … both are rumored to have been bus-boys at The Last Supper!
125 class: Grant Langston, riding the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, persevered to win the overall with 2/1 finishes. Grant fell in morning practice, and re-injured the dislocated ankle he suffered at round 1 in Sacramento. It was in question that he would even compete, let alone win!
Mike Brown finished second overall with moto finishes of 3/4, and Ryan Hughes was third overall with finishes of 8/2.
Notes: Mike Alessi won the first moto, but DNF the second moto by overjumping a jump, and pulling his shoulder out. Each race is 30 minutes plus 2 laps. Lap times averaged just over 2 minutes. Southwick is known primarily for it’s sand – deep brown sand that gets rougher and rougher as the day goes on.
TV: June 18 – OLN TV – 4pm Eastern Time – Southwick
Next event: June 19 – Budds Creek MD
Chad Reed, Travis Pastrana, Kevin Windham, and Jeremy McGrath Pennants.
