Hurricane Irene couldn’t stop the 2011 Southwick National from happening. Brett Metcalfe won his first overall of his career in America, while Ryan Villopoto increased his points lead to 8 over defending MX national champion Ryan Dungey, who had bike issues to start the second moto. Dean Wilson holds on to the 250 class point series lead, despite Tyla Rattray winning the overall. Tyla’s South African countryman, Gareth Swanepol won the first moto and 3rd overall on the day.
46 year old, John Dowd (Junk Yard Dog), earned enough points this season to keep his #16 for at least another year
In the women’s class Jessica Patterson had early bike issues in the first moto, which allowed Ashley Fiolek to win the first moto and the overall for the day. Ashley now has a very comfortable 30 point lead with four races remaining. Tarah Gieger gets second overall, while Alexah Pearson gets on the podium for the first time in her career finishing 3rd overall.
Rough day for JP$, mechanical failures in moto 1 may have cost her the championship
