Motocross of Nations, Sunday update part 1 – Team USA wins!
Published September 23rd, 2007
September 23, 2007, Budds Creek Maryland USA: The 2007 Motocross of Nations, held today at Budds Creek Raceway in Maryland, was a complete and total success for the world of motocross.
The overall results – USA first, France second, and Belgium third. The prize? It’s called the Chamberlain Trophy!
The individual results – Ryan Villopoto, riding a 250, won both of his motos by large margins, setting a record – the first time a MX2 class rider has won the overall.
All three American riders had crashes, but persevered to win. The MX of Nations is a difficult event, as each position counts towards the team’s overall results. Plus, the ‘rules’ of the event are very different compared to what’s ‘normal’ in the USA.
In the first moto, while Ryan Villopoto was out front, Ricky Carmichael was up front at the start too, but had a run in a couple corners into the race, and got going again in last place. Ricky battled all the way back to 3rd in the moto. RC won the final moto of the day. This race was Ricky’s final professional motocross race as he moves into his car racing career.
Tim Ferry proved all doubters wrong. He rode strong all day, finishing fourth in his first moto, and second behind RC in the second moto.
The weather was hot, the crowd, massive. The event was a total success, as the USA and the Beasley family, together with Youthstream, proved that the MX of Nations can be held in the USA.
This is the first of a series of updates on the event. We will have more photos, and video, over the next few hours and days.
