Round 2 of the Australian SX series held at in WIN Stadium in Wollongong, NSW was hampered by an unexpected thunderstorm, which would have a hand in a luckless night for Monster Energy Kawasaki racer, Dean Ferris.
Ferris got off to a great start earlier in the evening where he qualified on pole in the dry conditions looking for his first win of the series. The heaven’s opened before the final which would mean the second mud ridden race of the series. Ferris got a reasonable start and was well positioned on the first lap however moments later he would be taken down and left at the back of the pack. He quickly remounted but 3 laps in another error saw the Australian wind himself which forced him to retire without points.
“I’m really disappointed with tonight” admitted Ferris. “I set pole position in qualifying so was happy with my pace but it seems my luck just ran out in the final. I got cleaned out in the second turn and then landed on tuff block when I got going again and that ended my night. I’ve got the speed to win I just need to keep it upright.”
Ferris heads to Campelltown, NSW next weekend for round 3 of the 5 round series.
