Carlsbad: Home of the USGP, SuperBikers, thousands of local races, and lots of memories
Typical of the baked adobe hills and the chaparral brush of southern California, historic Carlsbad Raceway has run it’s last race – over 40 years of racing. Population growth and commercial building have done it in.
Certain words and phrases come to mind if you grew up around motocross during it’s heyday: United States Grand Prix. Annual. Father’s Day. 500cc. Bel Ray. Hang Ten. The Freeway. The Ledge. Rattlesnake Gulch. ABC Wide World of Sports. De Coster. Lackey. Mikkola. Wolsink. Moates. Johnson. Glover. Bailey. Ward. Blue groove. CMC. Commotion by the Ocean. Superbikers. And thousands of local races.
It’s over now.
