Published August 7th, 2006

Jim Pomeroy, age 53, died Sunday August 6th from a car crash near his
home of Yakima, Washington. His 9 year old daughter was also in the
vehicle, but was treated for minor injuries, and released from Yakima
Valley Memorial Hospital.

Jim is well known in motorcycling, as he was the first American ever to
win a Motocross Grand Prix world championship event in Spain, 1973.

Former champion David Bailey said ‘This is such a tragedy. When I was
younger, all I wanted to do was be like Jim Pomeroy. I rode Bultaco’s
back in the day like he did. We are all going to miss him.”

“Jim was a man that everyone in the sport and industry looked up to. He
always had a smile on his face, and always had time for everyone” said
former champion Rick Johnson.
