Carmichael wins Indy Supercross, Millsaps takes Lites division
The action started earlier in the week, as defending champion Ricky Carmichael had his 25 points re-instated from a previous fuel infraction on Friday before the event.
In the premier Supercross Class, Carmichael rode almost unchallenged to the win in the 20 lap main event. It was his 5th win of the season on the Makita Suzuki four-stroke. James Stewart fell in the first corner, re-mounted, and made a stunning charge all the way thru the pack to finish in second. Chad Reed, riding the number 22 Yamaha four-stroke, finished third.
Mike LaRocco announced his retirement at Thursday’s press conference, stating that he’ll hang ‘em up after the May 6 supercross in Las Vegas. He injured his hand and did not race during the night’s program at Indy.
The point standings have Reedy on top with 191, RC second with 190, and Stewart third with 174.
In the Supercross Lites Eastern Division, Honda’s Davi Millsaps won the 15 lap main event. Sobe Samsung Honda rider Josh Grant was second, and Chris Gosselaar third, riding for Team Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki.
The East point standings have Millsaps leading with 72, Gosselaar second with 54, and Branden Jesseman third with 52.
Notes: Fastest lap times were approx. 52 seconds. The next supercross race is Friday night, March 10, at Daytona International Speedway.
