Stephanie Laier, from Germany, racing for Red Bull KTM, has won the Women’s World MX Championship today (Saturday) in Fermo, Italy, by winning the first moto.
The track here in Fermo is definitely very difficult. Lots of hills, very steep ….. all set in a beautiful setting on the east coast of Italy.
The second ‘moto’, or race for the Women’s World Championship’s this year in run on Sunday, in conjunction with the Men’s MX1 and MX2 classes. Steffi did not race – either because she has not been feeling 100% (flu or cold), or because she might of hurt her shoulder in a practice crash and decided to not risk anything. We will find out the details soon.
Meanwhile, Larissa Papenmeier, also from Germany, riding for Suzuki, wins the Italian Grand Prix of the FIM Women’s World Championship, with a third in the first race, and a win in the second race. Second overall goes to ‘hometown’ (Italian) racer Chiara Fontanesi, with moto finishes of 2/2. 2008 Women’s World Motocross Champion Livia Lancelot finished third overall.
