Deadline for Essay Entries Extended for Ray Lang Good Neighbor Award
The deadline for essays has been extended for the Ray Lang Good Neighbor Award to August 31, 2009. The award, which was unveiled at the this year’s Air Nautiques AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn Ranch presented by Amsoil, was created in honor of Ray Lang, who passed away last year in a racing accident. Lang was 40 years old.
“We’re extending the deadline for the Ray Lang Good Neighbor Award so that families can take full advantage of this opportunity,” said Tim Cotter, Event Director. “Especially now that they’ve had the opportunity to get home and reflect on their experiences at Loretta Lynn.
Lang was the epitome of the rank-and-file amateur motocross enthusiast who comes to Loretta Lynn Ranch to compete and enjoy the camaraderie of this American motocross classic. He was a vet-class rider who came to Tennessee to be part of it all, and with his generosity and enthusiasm, he made a great impression on everyone around him.
MX Sports hopes to seek out the family or persons who camped at the ranch the week of the national who best epitomized good racing neighbors like Lang: kind and pleasant, helpful and respectful, enthusiastic and enjoyable.
In order to find that neighbor, MX Sports asks participants from this year’s event to nominate someone (or a family) they feel lived up to this description. Nominations will be accepted in an essay of 500 words or less, which can be sent by email to [email protected] , no later than August 31. MX Sports will name the winner of the First Annual Ray Lang Good Neighbor Memorial Award on Friday, September 4, 2009; and both the winner of the award and the nominee will have electrical hook-ups reserved for them in 2010, so that they may park together and enjoy another week at the Air Nautiques AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships. They will also receive a commemorative trophy for being good neighbors.
