Big story of the day besides Kawasaki dominating both class wins was the weather. Specifically the heat – 104 degrees! To say it was ‘hot’ was an understatement.
The 250 class was all Ryan Villopoto. He won both motos, and made it look easy, even though the weather played a big factor in today’s action – it caused some riders to not even line up for the second motos, and, riders to pull off during a moto, and even others that needed medical assistance right after their moto. Ryan Dungey was second in both motos for second overall. Austin Stroupe took third in both motos, finishing third overall. Villopoto leads the point standings over Dungey, 141 – 126.
450 class was once again a James Stewart double win. Six races so far for James in the outdoor series – and six wins so far for James! Mike Alessi was second in both motos for second overall. Third overall went to Andrew Short with finishes of 3/6.
Ashley Fiolek on her Honda won both motos of the Women’s event, followed overall by Sarah Whitmore (3/2), Mariana Balbi (5/4), Sherri Cruse (4/6) and Casuandra Regal completing the top five (8/5).

My first motocross, by Luke, age 8
It’s hot and flat. There are a lot of people here too. I wanted to cheer for number 8 because that’s my favorite number, but he didn’t ride. Then I decided I was going to cheer for number 15 and number 7. I got a pit pass. There are a lot of teams to look at. I got to go in the media tent – it is cool. I got some really cool motocross posters. It was neat to get close to the fence at the track to see all the bikes. They go fast. The track is really bumpy. I met a lot of fun people. I really like motocross.
p.s. Luke made out like a ‘bandit’! He got a Freestone Motocross hat, a Ricky Carmichael toy motorcycle (he heard RC was a good rider), a track worker gave him one of the course markers, he got posters of all the top riders, he got James Stewart’s handlebar pad, Tim Ferry’s autograph, and a lot more!
