2013 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross – Round 11 – Salt Lake City UT

Ryan Villopoto 450 National Champion, … Eli Tomac 250 National Champion, … Team USA announced for 2013 Motocross of Nations in Germany.

Ryan Villopoto won today’s 450 AMA Motocross at Miller Motorsports Park in Toole, Utah. With the victory he becomes the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA 450 National MX Champion. Eli Tomac scores 250 overall win, and wins the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA 250 National Championship!

Coming into today, Ryan Villopoto leads Ryan Dungey by 44 points in the 450 class, and Eli Tomac leads Ken Roczen by 39 points in the 250 class. If either Villopoto or Tomac comes out of today with a 50 point lead or more – they are 2013 champions.

  • The USA Team for the Motocross of Nations, to be held in Germany September 29 & 30, was announced today. The team – Ryan Dungey, Justin Barcia, and Eli Tomac. (Ryan Villopoto is going to have ankle surgery and won’t be able to compete.)

In 450 Qualifying, the quickest lap is turned in by Ryan Villopoto – 2 minutes even. James Stewart is next (2:01), Ryan Dungey and Malcolm Stewart (2:02), followed by Jake Weimer, Justin Barcia, and Tyla Rattray.

In 250 Qualifying, the quickest lap is Eli Tomac – 2 minutes 2 seconds. Adam Cianciarulo is second – 2 minutes 3 seconds. Then Marvin Musquin, Jason Anderson, and Ken Roczen (2:04).

450 Moto 1 – it’s Ryan Villopoto with the early lead. At the end of lap 1, it’s Villopoto clearly out front. He’s followed by Justin Brayton, Trey Canard, and Ryan Dungey. James Stewart sixth, Justin Barcia eighth, Tyla Rattray 10th, Chad Reed 14th.

Ryan Villopoto is doing what he’s done all year – pulling out a lead early. Half way into this race, eight laps in – it’s Villopoto out front over Ryan Dungey by 22 seconds. Then James Stewart, Trey Canard, and Weston Peick.

At the end of 30 minutes plus 2 lap – 17 laps total, it’s Ryan Villopoto with the win. Second place, almost 27 seconds back of RV, is Ryan Dungey. Third is Trey Canard, then Tyla Rattray, Weston Peick, Justin Brayton, Ryan Sipes, Jake Weimer, Matt Georke, Malcolm Stewart, and Justin Barcia 11th. Both Chad Reed and James Stewart pulled off after four laps.

250 Moto 1 – at the end of the first lap, it’s Zach Osborne with the lead. He’s followed by Justin Bogle, Martin Davalos, Adam Cianciarulo, and Eli Tomac. Wil Hahn is next, Darryn Durham, MarElvin Musquin, Jeremy Martin, and Justin Hill. Ken Roczen is 14th.

But by the end of the next lap, it’s Eli Tomac in first! Zach Osborne next, Adam Cianciarulo third, Bogle fourth, then Davalos, W Hahn, and Blake Baggett.

At the end of lap four, it’s Tomac out front, Osborne, Cianciarulo, Bogle, Davalos, Baggett, Roczen, Hahn, Musquin, and Durham.

As Eli Tomac continues to run up front, Adam Cianciarulo has moved into second. Now at the ten lap mark, third is Blake Baggett, then Zach Osborne, then Ken Roczen, Marvin Musquin, and Martin Davalos. Baggett is closing up on Cianciarulo …

Lap 13 – Baggett gets past Cianciarulo. Running order Tomac, Baggett, Cianciarulo, Ken Roczen, Marvin Musquin, Zach Osborne, and Cooper Webb.

At the end of this 17 lap moto, it’s Eli Tomac winning. Second goes to Blake Baggett, third Adam Cianciarulo with his best finish of his first ever professional season. Then Roczen, Musquin, Osborne, Cooper Webb, Darryn Durham, Justin Bogle, Justin Hill tenth.

450 Moto 2 – at the end of the first lap, it’s number 2 Ryan Villopoto with the lead, followed by number 1 – Ryan Dungey. If Villopoto wins this moto, he’s the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA 450 National Motocross Champion. If Dungey wins this moto – it will be settled next week at Lake Elsinore MX Park in southern California.

Ryan Villopoto is headed towards another moto victory, another overall victory, and most importantly – the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA 450 Pro Motocross title. 10 laps into this race, he leads Ryan Dungey by 12 seconds. Third is Trey Canard, then Justin Barcia, Tyla Rattray, Weston Peick, Andrew Short, Justin Brayton, Phil Nicoletti, and Ryan Sipes. Both Chad Reed and James Stewart did not start this moto.

Ryan Villopoto wins this moto. RV sweeps to take the overall victory on the day. And, Ryan Villopoto is the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA 450 National Motocross Champion! Second place in this moto goes to Ryan Dungey. The rest of the top ten in this moto: Trey Canard, Justin Barcia, Weston Peick, Jake Weimer, Justin Brayton, Phil Nicoletti, Andrew Short, and Ben LaMay.

This is Ryan’s second 450 AMA MX title. Combine that with 3 AMA Supercross Series titles, and 3 250 National MX titles – Ryan now has eight AMA National Championships.

250 Moto 2 – at the end of lap one, it’s Justin Bogle leading, Darryn Durham next, Zach Osborne is third, then Jeremy Martin, Marvin Musquin, Ken Roczen, and Jason Anderson. Eli Tomac is ninth.

If Eli Tomac wins this moto, and Ken Roczen finishes third or lower – Eli Tomac would win the 250 championship!

Now as they end lap four, it’s Justin Bogle leading, and Kenny Roczen has moved up to second, about three seconds back of Bogle. Third place is Darryn Durham, fourth Marvin Musquin, and fifth Eli Tomac.

Roczen seems determined to extend this series to it’s finale next week. On lap 7, Roczen gets past Bogle and into the lead. Bogle is second, … and look who is third – Eli Tomac. Will he mount one of his now legendary late moto charges to the front?

Next lap, Tomac goes past teammate Bogle and into second place. It’s now Roczen leading, Tomac chasing. It’s the battle that everyone has been waiting for – Roczen & Tomac racing for the championship.

As they complete lap 11, Roczen leads Tomac by 1.7 seconds. In third place – Justin Bogle, followed by Blake Baggett, Darryn Durham, Jeremy Martin, Cooper Webb, Zach Osborne, Marvin Musquin, and Adam Cianciarulo.

Lap 14 – Tomac has done it. He’s pushed past Roczen and into first place. Another late moto charge by Eli Tomac to take the lead position. Tomac’s condition cannot be questioned.

Blake Baggett is now catching up to Ken Roczen for second ….

On the last lap, with just a few corners left in the race, Blake Baggett has passed Ken Roczen to take over second! Tomac takes the checkered, … and Baggett looks like he’s taken second, with Roczen third. Unbelievable action! With Baggett’s pass on Roczen, Eli Tomac claims the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA 250 National Motocross Championship!

This 17 lap moto is complete – and Eli Tomac sweeps on the day for overall win, and most importantly – becomes the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA 250 National Motocross Champion!

Second thru tenth in this moto: Baggett, Roczen, Bogle, Durham, Martin, Webb, Musquin, Osborne, Cianciarulo, and Osborne.
