Southwick MX 338
:: Revisit Southwick MX race 2011!
The sandy track at Southwick got a bit of rain last night, but looks perfect this morning. The weather late this morning – cloudy, 75 degrees, and occasional rain and thunderstorms predicted. It’s been said that Nico Izzi missed his plane flight … and is not racing today.
250 Class qualifying - It’s GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac on top, with the quickest lap – 1 minute 58 seconds. His teamate Justin Barcia next at 2 minutes even. Then Blake Baggett, Marvin Musquin, Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson, Malcolm Stewart, Blake Wharton, Zach Bell (in his first professional race – GEICO Honda team) and Justin Bogle (2:02) round out the top ten of 68 qualifiers.

Eli Tomac 17
450 Class qualifying – It’s Broc Tickle on top on his Kawasaki KX 450 F! 1 minute 57 seconds! Ryan Dungey is second, just 3/10ths of a second slower. Tyla Rattray is third quickest, then Tommy Hahn, Robert Marshall (riding a KTM), Mike Alessi, Davi Millsaps (back racing!), Kyle Chisholm, Michael Byrne, and Phil Nicoletti tenth at 2:00. 450 Class Moto 1 – The track is in perfect condition, and typical Southwick – sandy and rough. The holeshot goes to number 800 – Mike Alessi.
It’s starting to rain … and it’s Mike Alessi leading Ryan Dungey now on lap five. Followed by Tommy Hahn, Phil Nicoletti, R Marshall, Davi Millsaps and Andrew Short.
Lap seven of this 30 minute plus 2 lap race – Ryan Dungey goes by Mike Alessi and into the lead! The top ten right now – Dungey, Alessi, T Hahn, Rob Marshall (Southwick is his ‘home’ track), Short, Nicoletti, Millsaps, Tickle, Grant, and Mike Brown. John Dowd is 13th.
This race is much like many others of the season to date – Ryan Dungey out front and leading comfortably. Mike Alessi second.
And that’s how this 17 lap race finishes – Ryan Dungey wins the moto! Mike Alessi is second. Third thru tenth – Tommy Hahn, local rider Robby Marshall, Andrew Short, Broc Tickle, Davi Millsaps, Josh Grant, Mike Brown, and John Dowd!

Tommy Hahn 32

Dungey lost fuel from his gas tank when he fell. He’s leading … but Tyla Rattray is on a charge. He’s just gotten by Alessi and into second.
