Round 6 of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Series took place this weekend from RedBud MX! Ryan Dungey wins the overall in the 450 Motocross class going 1-1, while Blake Baggett’s 1-1 finish gives him the win in the 250 Lites class

The track didn’t get any rain last night, but it looks to be tilled deep this morning. The weather early this morning was a ‘mild’ 85 degrees. And it’s expected to only get hotter – all the way up to 105 degrees, with a ‘heat index’ of 113. Also a chance of thunder showers in the afternoon. It could get ugly one way or another for the riders.
250 Class qualifying – Eli Tomac is ‘the man’ in qualifying, on top with the quickest lap time of 2 minutes 6 seconds. Marvin Musquin next, 2:07, then Wil Hahn, Ken Roczen, Justin Barcia, Blake Baggett, Jason Anderson, and Malcolm Stewart.
450 Class qualifying – Ryan Dungey is first, quickest lap of 2 minutes 6.59 seconds. And James Stewart is next, less than 4/10ths of a second behind, at 2:06.97. Then Jake Weimer, Tyla Rattray, Mike Alessi, Justin Brayton, Nico Izzi and Andrew Short.
250 Class Moto 1 – It’s number 38 on the Red Bull KTM Marvin Musquin with the lead! Lap two – Justin Barcia moves past Marvin and into the lead. The running order – Barcia, Musquin, Ken Roczen, Eli Tomac, K Peters, and Blake Baggett up front.
A little over 10 minutes into this moto, it’s Barcia up front, … and Blake Baggett has raged into second! Marvin Musquin is third, Ken Roczen fourth, and Eli Tomac is fifth. The top guys are up front …
20 minutes into this 30 minute plus two lap race – it’s Justin Barcia leading, Blake Baggett second, about 1.5 seconds behind. Third is Marvin Musquin, fourth Ken Roczen, and fifth Eli Tomac. Those five are way ahead of the rest of the pack.
With less than ten minutes to go in this race, Blake Baggett moves past Justin Barcia and into the lead! It’s Baggett leading now by over five seconds. Barcia second. Ken Roczen has moved into third, Marvin Musquin fourth, and Eli Tomac now a ways back in fifth.
The checkered, and the win, after 16 laps, goes to Blake Baggett! Second is Justin Barcia, then Ken Roczen, Marvin Musquin, and Eli Tomac.
450 Class Moto 1 – It’s Ryan Dungey number 5 with the holeshot! James Stewart number 7 right behind!
As they start lap four, it’s Ryan Dungey with a three second lead over James Stewart. Jake Weimer has moved to third, Christian Craig is back in action again, currently in fourth. Then Justin Brayton, Broc Tickle, Nico Izzi, Tyla Rattray (who is also back in action).
The 2001 AMA 125 National Motocross Champion Mike Brown is tenth! Legendary John Dowd is in 29th! Mike Alessi is 32nd. Andrew Short 35th. (Alessi and Short were involved in a multi rider pile up in the first corner.)
A little over ten minutes into the race, James Stewart has some problems, and comes around now in seventh place. The running order – Ryan Dungey, Jake Weimer, Justin Brayton, Broc Tickle, Tyla Rattray, Christian Craig, and then James Stewart.
This 30 minute plus two lap race is going to go 17 laps. And the winner, once again, is Ryan Dungey! Second place goes to Jake Weimer. Third is Justin Brayton, followed by Tyla Rattray, Broc Tickle, and James Stewart. John Dowd scored 22nd, while Mike Brown pulled out of the moto.
250 Class Moto 2 – Off the start it was Jessy Nelson who gets the holeshot, followed by Wil Hahn, Marvin Musquin and moto 1 winner Blake Baggett in 4th. Baggett quickly made his way to the front of the pack; after the first lap, he is followed by Barcia, Nelson, Hahn, Musquin, with Roczen in 9th with Tomac in 11th.
Baggett made a mistake on lap 2 and lost the lead to Barcia, but Bam Bam couldn’t hold on to the lead. WIth 10 mins and 2 laps left in the moto, Bagget was able to retake the lead and never looked back.
On the 14th lap, Eli Tomac moved into 3rd, as he made the pass on Musquin who finished 4th in the moto.
At the end of the 30 plus 2 lap moto, Blake Baggett wins going 1-1 for 1st overall on the day, thus increased his points lead on Justin Barcia, who finished 2-2 for 2nd overall on the day. Eli Tomac finished 3rd overall after his 5-3 performance. The rest of the top 10: Musquin, Hahn, Roczen, Swanepoel, Weeck, Nelson and Baker.
450 Class Moto 2 – Ryan Dungey lead almost the entire race from beginning to end to finish 1-1 and 1st overall on the day. This is Dungey’s 8th moto win in a row, going back to Thunder Valley where the winning streak started.
Mike Alessi lead the first two laps of the moto, but it was quickly taken away by Dungey. Alessi finished strong in moto 2 finishing 2nd.
After finishing 6th in moto 1, James Stewart came back in moto 2 to finish 3rd. Wrapping up the top 10: Brayton, Rattray, Short, Grant, Thompson, Tickle and Byrne. Notable finishes: Christian Craig finished 13th, John Dowd 24th, and Mike Brown 33rd.
