The start of any series, especially the FIM World Motocross Championship series of MX1 and MX2 is always exciting. New season, new riders, new teams, and more.
MX2 Qualifying Race: Although he wasn’t up front at the start, this race belonged to Jeffrey Herlings, riding the number 84 KTM. Jeffrey is a native of Holland, and very comfortable racing on the tough sand track of Valkenswaard. Teammate Jeremy van Horebeek of Belgium finished second (number 89), and the UK’s Tommy Searle was third on the Kawasaki.
MX1 Qualifying Race: World Champion Tony Cairoli made it look easy on his KTM 350. The five time World Champ has it all going on – mental fitness, physical fitness, incredible skill, and a great bike. One of Tony’s toughest competitors the past few years, Clement Desalle, from Belgium and riding Suzuki finished second. Another top contender for the championship, Frenchman Steven Frossard (number 183) finished third. Christophe Pourcel finished 16th today. Russian rider Evgeny Bobryshev was fastest in timed practice, but had a problem in this qualifying heat.
The Grand Prix is tomorrow.
