PJ Larsen Out for Remainder of 2011 AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series

PJ Larsen Out for Remainder of 2011 AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series

JDR/J-Star/KTM Supercross and motocross rider PJ Larsen will not compete in the remaining four rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series due to a neck injury sustained prior to the Unadilla Motocross round.

Larsen, who returned to the series at the Millville round in mid-July, has only competed in three outdoor nationals this season after sitting out the first half of the series with scaphoid fracture in his right wrist. Just as his wrist healed, his unfortunate luck returned to him prior to Unadilla.

Larsen fell during a practice session prior to the Unadilla motocross round and complained of pain in his neck. “My neck was sore, but I figured I just kinked it and it would heal by Unadilla,” remarked Larsen. “I took some aspirin and made a last minute decision to race Unadilla.” Larsen’s results would suffer as his neck injury caused him pain mid-moto and his lap times began to fade.

Once he returned home on Monday he was evaluated by his doctor and told that he had cracked his C-4, C-5 and C-6 vertebrae in his neck and would be advised to take a minimum of six weeks off from riding.

“I can’t believe that I was able to race after finding out that my neck was cracked. I also can’t believe the bad luck I have had with injuries this year. After winning two Championships in Australia in 2010, I was hoping to have a great season in America and am upset that I haven’t been able to complete a season yet,” remarked Larsen. “I plan to rest the next few weeks to allow my neck to heal and then begin working hard on Supercross testing to be prepared for the opening round at Anaheim.”

Ashley Fiolek, a multi-time AMA Women’s Motocross Champion, a multi-time Gold Medal winner in Supercross at ESPN’s X Games, and current points leader in AMA MX, will be honored, together with Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd at the 2011 Diamond in the RAW Celebrity and Stuntwomen’s Awards.

This event also include special guest co-hosts, Brooke Anderson, and Kevin Frazier from “The Insider”.

The Diamond in the RAW Foundation is excited to name executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and world-class motocross champion Ashley Fiolek as this year’s recipients of two of the most coveted distinctions at their annual Celebrity & Stuntwomen’s Awards Luncheon.  Every year, the awards program, now in its fourth running, honors the body of work contributed to the entertainment industry by the women behind the magic. Hurd will be recognized with the Special Achievement Award, while Fiolek will receive the Dare 2B Different Award.

Hurd, best known for her work on The Terminator and is currently the executive producer of AMC’s hit drama “The Walking Dead”, has built a reputation as one of the industry’s most respected and innovative film and television producers. Over the course of her career, Hurd has developed and produced films that routinely garner Academy Awards® nominations, and television programs that win Emmys® and shatter ratings records.

At the age of twenty, Fiolek succeeded in becoming the youngest Women’s MX champion in the history of AMA Motocross, a feat especially extraordinary given that in a sport dominated by sound, Ashley has been deaf since birth.

“Both of their work truly exudes the brilliance of a diamond and is more than worthy to be recognized at this year’s 2011 Diamond in the Raw Celebrity and Stuntwomen’s Awards luncheon. We are ecstatic to be honoring them,” says Co-founders and CEO of Diamonds in the RAW Foundation, Jadie David and La Faye Baker.

The Celebrity & Stuntwomen’s Awards will take place at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles on Sunday October 16, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A reception and silent auction will kick off the event at 11:00 a.m., followed by the luncheon and awards ceremony. Tickets for the event are available for purchase at www.stuntwomensawards.com

Dean Wilson to Race the Hybrid Supercross / Motocross Inaugural Monster Energy Cup

Dean Wilson to Race the Hybrid Supercross / Motocross Inaugural Monster Energy Cup

It’s supercross … it’s motocross … it’s the hybrid Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas, on October 15 at Sam Boyd Stadium. Team Pro-Circuit Kawasaki rider and current 250 MX Lites class points leader in the AMA National Motocross series, Dean Wilson is racing!

More info courtesy of Feld Motor Sports:

The sophomore Supercross Lites class rider had the best season of his career in 2011 by taking home his first Eastern Regional Supercross Lites class win in Atlanta. Wilson kept the momentum alive by winning in Arlington, Texas and Toronto, Canada.

Wilson finished second overall on the season, 22 points behind Eastern Regional Supercross Lites class champion Justin Barcia.

“The Monster Energy Cup should be a great race. Racing in Las Vegas at Sam Boyd Stadium is exciting and the chance to line up against the guys who were my racing heroes growing up will be awesome. I think we are going to see some good battles with the track going into the stands, so that should be exciting too. The format is going to be fun with there being three main events. I am going to be pushing to win all (three) of the races so I can take home the $1 million,” said Wilson.

With 15 career starts, three wins, five podium visits, four top five and four top ten finishes to his credit, Wilson is one of the top Supercross Lites class riders to compete in the open-class format.

The unique Monster Energy Cup hybrid track will consist of supercross / MX terrain and will have a tremendous MX style influence, making it unlike any other stadium race in the world. This track will be the perfect blend of supercross and MX combined and created into the ultimate battleground. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and for the first time ever, $1 million will be paid to a rider that wins all three main events.
