In MX1, it’s looking now as the season gets rolling, that the top two riders in the world – current World Motocross Champion Tony Cairoli, and current series points leader Clement Desalle are separating themselves from their competition.

MX1

Clement Desalle was dominant today on his Suzuki, winning both motos. And Tony Cairoli finished second in both motos. These two riders seems to be head and shoulder above the rest, along with being the most consistent.

Russian Honda World Motocross rider Evgeny Bobryshev had a strong ride as well, two fourth places motos to finish third overall. (Look for Evgeny’s rider profile coming on Supercross.com soon. Great guy, very friendly, and as he summed up our mini-view in preparing the profile, said it best “I just love to ride my motorcycle”.)

“Hometown” racer Rui Goncalves had a nice day as well, finishing fourth overall behind teammate Bobryshev.

Said winner Clement Desalle: It was good to win and I’m happy with the result but I’m not that pleased with some mistakes I made. Tony was getting close to me both times but I stayed focused and didn’t want to crash. I wasn’t tense and I knew what speed I could do. It was good to get more experience of being at the front and learning from the pressure! I had to pass Rui and Bobryshev in the second moto but I took my time because I didn’t want to have to take any risks. I looked for opportunities and there wasn’t many because the track was very rough and stony. I am still leading the Championship, but we will think about this more at the end of the season!

MX2

Jeffrey Herlings scored the overall victory on his Red Bull Teka KTM, and, takes over the series points lead for MX2. Jeffrey had two second place finishes.

Jeffrey’s teammate Ken Roczen won the first moto, but had a hard crash in the second moto and DNF (did not finish). Tommy Searle won the second moto.

But second overall position on the day went to the stylish Yamaha rider from France – Gautier Paulin. And third overall went to American Zach Osborne.

Said winner Jeffrey Herlings: I’m six points ahead of Kenny now and I have to keep it like that. It’s going to be really hard because Ken is in very good shape and he’s really fast, but all in all it was a good weekend for me. I’ll try to stay cool, that’s the main thing I have to do to hold onto the red plate. It will be hard but I’m looking forward to the races next weekend in Spain and I hope to keep it.
