2011 FIM World Motocross – Round 10 – Latvia
Published July 17th, 2011
Round 10 of the FIM World Motocross Series in Latvia! KTM’s dynamic duo of World MX 1 Motocross Champion Tony Cairoli and 250 MX 2 series leader Ken Roczen seem to be on quite a mid season roll. In MX1, Desalle, Frossard, and Bobryshev seem to want to give Cairoli chase, while Roczen’s KTM teammate Herlings, Searle, and Paulin are trying to close up on Ken. Tony Cairoli and Ken Roczen keep the KTM train rolling by sweeping every moto …
Kegums – race track Zelta zirgs
As mentioned in yesterday’s qualiying coverage, it is a beautiful setting here in Latvia – set deep in the forest, great track, and it’s a place that almost every rider says is “my favorite”. The Zelta zirgs racing facility here in Kegums will also be host to the 2014 Motocross of Nations.
In the MX 2 class, it is once again Kenny Roczen and his KTM Red Bull Teka number 94 machine sweeping both motos. Ken extends his series points lead as well. In second place, both motos for second overall, Jeffrey Herlings. Third in both motos – Kawasaki rider Tommy Searle. These three riders top the series point standings as well, in the same position as their overall finishes today. All four motos of the Grand Prix went 20 laps.

In the MX 1 class, Tony Cairoli won both motos. What can you say about the four-time World Champion? He just seems to be able to do whatever is required to win championships. And he did it in style today, sweeping both motos. Steven Frossard put in two strong rides as well, taking second overall via 2/2 moto finishes. And Russian rider Evgeny Bobryshev kept his streak of riding well too – finishing third overall with a 3/3.
Championship contender Clement Desalle rode well at the beginning of moto one … but eventually struggled to two eighth place finishes. Most likely the shoulder injury from a few weeks ago. The series takes a week off, before heading to Round 11 in Lommel, Belgium.

Courtesy of KTM, World Motocross Champion Tony Cairoli said: It was an awesome weekend. Every time I was on the track I was in front. It was an amazing feeling. I’m getting stronger and stronger every weekend and my speed is getting better. I enjoyed both races. I led from the first lap of the first race, but Frossard was strong at the end and I had some trouble with a back marker. But in the end it was enough to win. I got a good start in the second race and managed to control the race and win.
Courtesy of KTM, World MX2 series points leader Ken Roczen said: It was pretty amazing to win both races because I was far off the pace in practice, and even though I was pushing hard I couldn’t make good lap times. Then I won the first moto by a good gap and I saved a lot of energy for the second race. I got a good start in the second moto and I let Jeffrey by to check out his lines. Then when there was about 15 minutes to go I put my head down, pushed past him and went on to pick up some good points.
