MX1 – David Philippaerts, the 2008 World Motocross Champion, has won the French Grand Prix of Motocross today. The strong Italian raced to moto finishes of 3/1. Current World Motocross Champion, and the man leading this year’s championship points chase, Tony Cairoli, tied David on overall point for the day – each with 45. David wins the tiebreaker with the better second moto finish, but Tony extends his series points lead. Tony scores second overall in today’s GP. Third place went to Belgian Clement Desalle, followed by another racer from Belgium, Clement’s Teka Suzuki team-mate Steve Ramon.
Cairoli has a big lead over second place Desalle in the championship points chase for MX1 – 304 to 236.
MX2 – The World Motocross Champion of the MX2 class, Marvin Musquin, won his home GP. Marvin is dominating this year series, and has to date proved his is the best racer in the 250 class. He leads second place Ken Roczen in the point standings Ken Roczen, 318 to 247. Roczen finished 12th overall today with moto finishes of 16/7.
Second overall today in MX2 – Joel Roelants from Belgium racing a KTM. And third overall, after last weekend’s second overall at the US GP – American Zach Osborne racing a Yamaha.

Marvin Musquin: “It was the best weekend for me. Like at Glen Helen I took really good starts twice. It was not easy to pass, so the start was important for me. I felt very confident on my bike and it was perfect for me to win here with my fans and in front of the French people. My bike was really strong for the starts and everyone on the team worked hard for me, so it’s very good for the championship.”
Tony Cairoli: For sure I’m disappointed that I missed the GP victory, but it’s good for the MX1 championship. I have a big points gap now and I can take control of the racing. I just want to be consistent and take a lot of championship points. For sure it’s nice to win the GP, but sometimes it is just not possible. I’ve already won seven heats and I want to keep going this way. For most of the track we only had one line, so it was hard to pass if you had a bad start. This is not really my favorite track but it was a good weekend for me. I won the qualification and the first moto and I was second overall.”
The next Grand Prix race is in Germany, June 19th and 20th
