Bellpuig
MX1 – Tanel Leok, from Estonia, and riding for Honda, has won the Spanish Motocross Grand Prix at Bellpuig. It was an unpredictable day, as both Grand Prix winners had moto scores of 7/1. Second overall today in MX1 was former World MX Champion David Philippaerts from Italy. Max Nagl of Germany on KTM was third, and current World Motocross Champion Tony Cairoli finished fourth overall.
Cairoli maintains his series points lead over team-mate Nagl, 214 to 198.
MX2 – Marvin Musquin, the defending World MX 2 Champ from France, used moto finishes on 7/1 to win the Motocross Grand Prix on an unpredictable day. Ken Roczen won the first moto, but DNF the second moto. Other top contender Jeffrey Herlings finished third in the first moto, DNF the second.
Joel Roelants and Shaun Simpson had their best rides of the day on their KTM’s, finished second and third overall today.
Musquin extends his points lead – he has 218 points, Roczen is second with 192, and Herlings is third with 184.
Marvin Musquin: “The qualification was difficult with the rain and I didn’t ride so well so I was seventh. But today was another day. I felt better and I made some good lap times in the warm-up. Then I had a bad start in the first moto and I crashed with Osborne. I came back to seventh and then I was behind Shaun (Simpson) and it was difficult to pass. I was very focused on my start for the second moto. I took the holeshot and then it was like it was in Portugal with me in front of Ken (Roczen) – until he had his DNF. The track was really slippery but it got better and better and my win is good for me and good for the championship.”
Notes: Gautier Paulin has returned to action in the Grand Prix MX Series. The next race in the series will be held in the USA, at Glen Helen Raceway, May 29 and 30.
