Spring Creek Motocross

450 Moto 1 – returning to action in outdoor motocross for the first time in a few years, number 14 Kevin Windham, riding for Red Bull Honda, has the holeshot! At the end of the first lap, it’s Windham leading, 450 MX series points leader Ryan Dungey second, then Andrew Short, Ben Townley, Chad Reed, and Josh Grant.

Windham is looking very good out front … not having raced competitively since the last supercross in Las Vegas in early May. Dungey second, Short third, Josh Grant is next … then Reed, and Townley.

Dungey has passed Windham and moved into the lead in his number 5 Suzuki. Josh Grant has pushed into second place. Now Short third … Townley is next … Windham back to fifth … Thomas Hahn sixth. Chad Reed seventh. Mike Alessi, who fell on the first lap is 16th.

On lap 13, as the top riders are averaging 2 minute 10 second lap times, Ryan Dungey is comfortably out front. Typical this season – Dungey leading. Second place is Josh Grant, he’s being chased by Andrew Short in third. Ben Townley is fourth. Windham is still in fifth. Chad Reed has really slowed. His last lap was almost 2 minutes 30 seconds. Now Chad has pulled off the track …

Ryan Dungey has won this first moto! Josh Grant finishes second, then Andrew Short, Ben Townley, and fifth goes to Kevin Windham in his first outdoor ride of the year. Then Thomas Hahn, Kyle Chisholm, Kyle Regal, and Ryan Sipes.

250 Moto 1 – it’s Trey Canard running up front, points leader Christophe Pourcel is next, then Dean Wilson, Jake Weimer, Justin Barcia, and Blake Wharton.

At ten minutes into this race … Christophe Pourcel has moved past Canard and into the lead. It’s Pourcel leading, Canard is second, Dean Wilson third, then it’s Jake Weimer, Blake Wharton, Justin Barcia, Tyla Rattray, and Nico Izzi.

On lap 12, Trey Canard has pounced back – he’s overtaken Pourcel for the lead! The running order now – Trey Canard leading, Pourcel is next, then Jake Weimer, Tyla Rattray, Blake Wharton, and Dean Wilson.

Next lap, Christophe Pourcel goes back by Canard and into first again!

This race is going to go 16 laps. That’s 30 minutes plus 2 laps. The winner? Christophe Pourcel! Second goes to Trey Canard, then Jake Weimer, Tyla Rattray, Blake Wharton, Dean Wilson, Broc Tickle, son of the track owner’s Alex Martin, Travis Baker, Nico Izzi, Tommy Searle, Matt Lemoine, and 13th is Eli Tomac.

450 Moto 2 – At the end of this first lap, it’s Ben Townley in first! Andrew Short is second, then Ryan Sipes, Kevin Windham, and Ryan Dungey. Alessi is 8th, Grant is 12th, and it looks like Chad Reed did not even start this moto.

On lap two – Ben Townley hits the dirt. Andrew Short takes over the lead! Dungey is second, Kevin Windham is third … then Ryan Sipes, Kyle Regal, Thomas Hahn, and Mike Alessi.

On lap three – Ryan Dungey has taken over the lead. By far, 2010 belongs to Ryan Dungey. Actually, it started last year. In 2009 he won the 250 West Regional Supercross Series. He won the 250 MX outdoor AMA Championship. He was part of the winning USA Motocross of Nations team. Earlier this year (2010) Ryan won the premier AMA Supercross Series Championship (450 class). And now – Ryan leads the 450 AMA outdoor Motocross Championship series, has won five races in a row, is leading this moto right now, and looks like he will win this race in his home state of Minnesota.

The running order on lap five – Dungey, Short, Windham, Regal, Windham, T Hahn, Josh Grant, Mike Alessi, R Sipes, Brett Metcalfe, and Kyle Chisholm. Nick Wey is 11th, Townley is 12th.

At the ten lap mark, it’s Dungey, Short, Kyle Regal with a great ride in third, then Windham, Josh Grant, Brett Metcalfe, Townley up to seventh, Sipes, Chisholm, and Alessi tenth.

A great ride for Dungey – he’s way out front, all by himself. And a great ride for Kyle Regal – on lap 12 he has passed Andrew Short for second place. So, top five – Dungey, then Regal, Short, Windham, and Josh Grant. Then Metcalfe, Townley, R Sipes, Chisholm, and Alessi.

Ryan Dungey wins this 16 lap moto (by a huge margin!), and of course the overall victory, as he won moto one as well. And of course, Ryan extends his 450 Motocross series points lead – with only five rounds remaining in the 2010 series. (Next week – Washougal MX Park for Round 8!)

The top ten in this moto – Dungey, Regal, Short, Windham, Townley, Metcalfe, Sipes, M Alessi, Chisholm, and Grant tenth.

250 Moto 2 – it’s Trey Canard leading, Dean Wilson is second, and Eli Tomac is third. Jake Weimer is next, close by Tyla Rattray and Justin Barcia. First moto winner Christophe Pourcel is running eighth.

On lap vie, the top three remain the same – Trey Canard leading, Dean Wilson is second, Eli Tomac third. Then it’s Rattray, Barcia, Weimer, and Pourcel.

As typical for this time of the year, and this part of the country – it is starting to rain a bit. (Earlier in the day it’s been hot and humid, but clear and sunny.)

There has been some changes to the top ten just a bit. On lap 13, it’s still Trey Canard leading, with Dean Wilson second. Justin Barcia has moved into third. Tyla Rattray fourth. Jake Weimer fifth … then Broc Tickle, Blake Wharton, Darryn Durham, Eli Tomac, and Christophe Pourcel is tenth.

The checkered flag falls, and Trey Canard has won this moto! And he wins the overall! Dean Wilson finishes second. Justin Barcia third. Tyla Rattray is fourth, Jake Weimer fifth, then Broc Tickle, Blake Wharton, Darryn Durham, Tommy Searle and Christophe Pourcel tenth, Tomac 11th.
