High Point Raceway
450 Race 1 – Early leader is Supercross Champion number 5 on the Suzuki, Ryan Dungey. Dungey goes a little off the track, and Josh Grant number 33 on Yamaha is now leading. After the first few laps, it’s Grant, Dungey, Andrew Short, Mike Alessi and Thomas Hahn. Chad Reed is tenth. Lap times are running approx. 2 minutes 10 seconds for the fast guys.
The track is perfectly prepared. At the 20 minute mark into the race, it’s Josh Grant leading, Ryan Dungey is second, Andrew Short third, Mike Alessi fourth, Ben Townley has now moved into fifth, Thomas Hahn is next, followed by Matt Goerke. Defending MX Champ Chad Reed is running 11th.
With about ten minutes remaining in this 30 minute plus 2 lap race, Grant has fallen down in a left hand corner. Dungey moves into the lead! And it is starting to rain just a bit.
With two laps to go, the track is starting to get wet. The running order: Dungey, Grant, Short, Townley, Hahn, Matt Goerke, Kyle Cunningham, Mike Alessi, Davi Millsaps, Ryan Sipes, Kyle Chisholm, Reed 13th.
At the finish of race 1, Ryan Dungey has won! Josh Grant second, Andrew Short third, Ben Townley fourth, Matt Goerke fifth, Brett Metclafe sixth, Mike Alessi seventh, Davi Millsaps, Kyle Cunnnigham, and Ryan Sipes tenth. Chad Reed finished 13th.
250 Race 1 – This race has number 377 with the red number plates on the Kawasaki – Christophe Pourcel leading coming out of the first corner!
The track is getting a little greasy in places because of the raing, so it’s easy for riders to make mistakes. Ten minutes into the race now we have Justin Barcia number 17 leading, former MX2 World Motocross Champion Tyla Rattray second, Tommy Searle is third, Christophe Pourcel is back in fourth, Jake Weimer fifth, Dean Wilson is next, then Wharton, Baggett, Lemoine, and Davalos.
At the 20 minute mark of this 30 minute plus 2 lap race, it’s Justin Barcia still leading, Tyla Rattray second, Christophe Pourcel next, then West Supercross Champ Jake Weimer, Tommy Searle, Dean Wilson, Blake Wharton, Blake Baggett, and ninth is Eli Tomac number 243 on the Geico Honda.
Lap times have slowed to approx. 2 minutes 35 seconds for the fastest guys because of the mud, although the rain has stopped now. The leader, with about ten minutes to go – Justin Barcia. Next is Tyla Rattray, third is Christophe Pourcel, then Tommy Searle, Dean Wilson, Blake Baggett, Jake Weimer, Blake Wharton, Broc Tickle, Darryn Durham, and then Eli Tomac is 11th.
And at the end of this race, Justin Barcia has won! Then it’s Tyla Rattray in second, Blake Baggett has charged up to third! Christophe Pourcel finishes fourth. Then it’s Dean Wilson, Tommy Searle, Jake Weimer, Blake Wharton, Broc Tickle, and Eli Tomac tenth.

Andrew Short
450 Motocross Race 2 – exiting the first corner, it’s number 29 Honda RedBull rider Andrew Short leading!
The weather and the track are dry, but the track is rutted in places. Andrew Short is leading, then Mike Alessi is second, Ryan Dungey is third, … but they are close and battling! Dungey has finally made the pass stick.
Just past 10 minutes into the race, it’s Short leading, Dungey is next, then Alessi, and fourth is Brett Metcalfe. Thomas Hahn is next, then Davi Millsaps. Josh Grant is a ways back …. pointing to the front end of his motorcycle. Chad Reed is even farther back, also having some sort of problem.
Regardless, at the halfway point of this race, Andrew Short is leading by a nice margin. Dungey is second, …. Chad Reed has pulled off the track with bike problems. Brett Metcalfe is third, then Thomas Hahn, Mike Alessi, Davi Millsaps, Ben Townley and Matt Goerke. Reed, Alessi, and Grant are certainly having bad days compared to their expectations.
Short is looking very smooth out front, although Dungey is closing on him. Dungey has closed right up behind Short with about ten minutes left in this race.
Ryan Dungey has made the pass. Dungey is getting faster as the race goes on, and is the new leader. Short is second, Metcalfe is third. If they stay this way, Dungey will have the overall win wrapped up by sweeping both 450 motos.
Ryan Dungey has won this race, and goes 1/1 on the day for the 450 Motocross class overall victory! He has also taken over the 450 Motocross Series points lead!
Second in this moto – Andrew Short, then Brett Metcalfe, Thomas Hahn, Mike Alessi, Ben Townley, Matt Goerke, Nick Wey, Justin Brayton, Kyle Chisholm, Ryan Sipes, Kyle Cunningham, Davi Millsaps, and Dan Reardon.
250 Race 2 – it looks like Christophe Pourcel on his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki with the lead coming out of the first corner! At the end of the first lap, it’s Pourcel, Dean Wilson, Martin Davalos, Tyla Rattray, and Nico Izzi fifth. Justin Barcia is ninth … Eli Tomac 16th, … Trey Canard 18th.
Tyla Rattray has moved past Davalos, so it’s a Monster Kawasaki Pro Circuit top three right now – Christophe Pourcel first, Dean Wilson second, and Tyla Rattray third. Pourcel from France. Wilson from Canada. Rattray from South Africa.
At the halfway point of this race, Pourcel is still leading, team-mate Tyla Rattray has moved into second, Blake Wharton has moved into third! Then Martin Davalos, Nico Izzi, and Dean Wilson has dropped back to sixth. Canard ninth. Tomac 13th. Back up front, Rattray is just over 1 second behind leader Pourcel.
As the race nears it’s completion, it’s still Pourcel leading, Rattray right behind chasing. If things stay the same, Tyla Rattray will win his first overall victory in the USA! Third place in the final moto of the day is Blake Wharton, next is Davalos, Izzi, Canard, Wilson, Tickle, W Hahn, Durham, Baggett, Weimer, and Tomac. Barcia is 21st. Tommy Searle 22nd.
At the checkered, it’s Christophe Pourcel with the moto win! He extends his 250 Championship series points lead!
Tyla Rattray finishes second. And with that second place, Tyla Rattray has scored his first ever AMA Professional Motocross overall victory!
The top ten for this moto finish – Pourcel, Rattray, Blake Wharton, Trey Canard, Broc Tickle, Dean Wilson, Martin Davalos, Wil Hahn, Blake Baggett, and Darryn Durham. Barcia 21st.

Ryan Dungey
