Faenza, Italy
Saturday, September 13: The track is situated in the vineyards and hills outside of the town of Faenza. The title is right down to the wire in both MX1 and MX2. In MX1, ‘hometown’ rider David Philippaerts, riding the Monster Energy Yamaha, is close to securing his first ever World Championship – he leads defending champion Steve Ramon of the Teka Suzuki team from Belgium by 14 points. In MX2, South African Tyla Rattray is in even better position to secure that title, leading his Red Bull KTM team-mate from England Tommy Searle by 33 points.
American rider Zach Osborne won the first MX2 Qualifying race (#338 Yamaha), Tyla Rattray won the second MX2 Qualifying race, and Sebastien Pourcel qualified fastest in MX1 qualifying.

Sunday, September 14: The prediction was for rain. Lots of rain … but it never came down heavy, only a few minutes of sprinkles a couple times during the day. The Faenza track was in perfect condition.
First class off the line was MX2. Tyla Rattray had a commanding lead coming into this final round, and although Tommy Searle was the moto winner, Tyla second place in moto 1 was good enough to secure his 2008 World Motocross Championship. Searle did go on to win the second moto, easily winning the GP overall, with Rattray second overall – but Tyla is the 2008 FIM MX2 World Motocross Champion!
Searle is heading to race in America starting in 2009, while both Tyla Rattray and multi-time MX2 World Champion Tony Cairoli will both move up to the MX1 class starting in 2009.
In MX1, it was still potentially a three way battle for the championship between David Philippaerts, Steve Ramon, and Ken de Dycker. In the first moto, Max Nagl lead the entire way for the win, with de Dycker second, Philippaerts third, and Ramon 11th. All David had to do in the second moto was finish 18th, even if one of his competitors were to win. David rode strongly, yet smartly to ninth, securing his first Motocross World Championship. The Italian fans went crazy! Nagl won the second moto as well, securing the GP win … but David Philippaerts is the 2008 FIM MX1 World Motocross Champion!
