| Thunder Valley Motocross Park 450 victory to James Stewart, 250 victory to Ben Townley … 450 Motocross Class: This one is almost hard to explain – there was a lot of racing and passing going on, with a lot of riders in contention for the podium. James Stewart was the leader of the first moto. But part way in, Stewart slowed down – could of been the heat and altitude, which saps energy very quickly, or could of been the result of his fall/injury from last week. Or maybe it was just a tactic in conserving energy for an extremely difficult day. (Heat and altitude.) The first moto finishing order was Davi Millsaps, local hero Andrew Short, Mike Alessi, James Stewart, and Kevin Windham. The second moto was crazier than the first! However, when the checkered flag fell, it was Tim Ferry, James Stewart, Mike Alessi, Andrew Short, and then David Vuillemin. For the overall, each of the top three scored 40 points. The tie breaker is the better second moto performance. The top three overall on the day ended with Stewart on top with 4/2, Mike Alessi second with 3/3 finishes, and Andrew Short third with 2/4 finishes. James Stewart is now the points leader with 265 points. 250 Motocross Lites Class: Once again, it was a battle between team-mates Ryan Villopoto and Ben Townley. Villopoto won the first moto, with Townley second. Townley won the second moto, with Villopoto second. They tie on points (47 each) but Ben Townley is the winner of the 250 Motocross Lites at Lakewood today! And right now, they are still tied on points for the overall series championship with 310 points each! Notes: Riding at Thunder Valley MX Park in Lakewood CO is not easy for two reasons: Altitude & heat. The track is at about 6,000 feet altitude, making it hard to get ‘normal’ air into both body & bike. And the weather was really hot. The temperature reached 100 degrees at 2:50pm. |
