| Unadilla Valley Sports Center 450 Motocross Class: Kevin Windham won the overall today. Congrats to K-Dub! But two other names were talked about just as much during the day: 1. Ricky Carmichael. RC did not race at Unadilla. Even though he was leading the 450 Motocross Championship Points Series coming into Unadilla, he stayed true to his word of partial retirement as he tries his skills with car racing. 2. James Stewart. James was not able to race at Unadilla today. Everyone was looking for James to take over the points lead at this event, with RC not racing. Unfortunately, James fell in Sunday morning practice, was taken off the track, and reportedly went to the hospital to get checked out completely. So, that left the door wide open for a ‘new day’ of racing for the guys in the 450 class. No RC, no Stewart. The odd thing is, even with both of them not racing, they are still one-two in the point standings after today! So, Kevin Windham is the winner with 1/3, Tim Ferry is second with a fifth in the first moto, and a victory in the second moto, and Andrew Short finished third overall with 6/2 finishes. 250 Lites Motocross Class: The short version – Ben Townley won the overall, Ryan Dungey was second, Jason Lawrence was third, and Ryan Villipoto went DNF/1 Defending National Champion Ryan Villipoto crashed in the first moto while battling with Broc Hepler. He pulled off the track soon after, looking at the bike’s motor area. He did not come back onto the track for the moto – the bike’s motor was leaking either radiator fluid or motor oil. His result- DNF. The first moto finished Townley first, Dungey second, and Broc Hepler third. (It’s was Broc’s return to racing, and he went 3/15 overall.) Villipoto came back strong to win the second moto, Dungey second, Townley third. And the big picture now: Pro Circuit team-mates Ben Townley & Ryan Villipoto are tied for the lead in the point standings! (They each have 263.) |
