| Red Bud Carmichael, Villipoto score at Red Bud … 450 Motocross Class: It was, as it has been all season, a battle between James Stewart (the current supercross champion) and Ricky Carmichael (the winningest rider ever & defending motocross champion). In the first moto, Stewart was leading, and Carmichael passed for the lead. Then, Carmichael bobbled. The moto finished Stewart, Carmichael, and Mike Alessi. In the second moto, it was Stewart leading Carmichael for most of the moto, until James fell over! The moto finished Carmichael, Stewart, and Mike Alessi. So, although Carmichael and Stewart tied on points (47 each) the overall win goes to Ricky Carmichael, second goes to James Stewart, and Mike Alessi gets his and KTM’s best finish of the year with third overall. Notes: Lap times for the fastest riders averaged just under 2 minutes 30 seconds, making it one of the longer circuits on the series to date. 250 Lites Motocross Class: It was once again a battle between team-mates Ryan Villipoto and Ben Townley. Defending 250 National Champion Ryan Villipoto won both motos, extending his lead in the series point standings. Second overall was Ben Townley with 2/2 finishes – but Ben almost didn’t race! (See notes below.) Josh Grant was third overall with 4/3 motos. Villipoto leads Townley in the point standings, 238 to 218. Notes: It was possible that Ben Townley wasn’t going to race – he had intense pain in the stomach area Saturday, and was doubtful for Sunday. But obviously he showed up Sunday : ) Ryan Dungey did not race. He fell yesterday in practice, suffering a concussion. |
