Budds Creek MX Park

Budds Creek MX Park, which will host the 2007 Motocross of Nations in September, was the site of today’s AMA National Motocross.

In the 450 Motocross class, defending National Motocross Champion Ricky Carmichael did what’s he’s done in each of the previous three rounds – race with James Stewart, and take the overall win. Today, Ricky finished second in the first moto (to Stewart), and then passed Stewart for the lead late in moto 2, going on to win. This win marks Carmichael’s 100th AMA National Motocross victory – a record.

Second overall was James Stewart. James won the first moto, leading every lap. In the second moto, he led for most of the moto, until Carmichael made his pass. So, Stewart goes 1/2 for second overall.

Chad Reed raced his first (and probably only) national of the year, which gives him good practice & set-up as he’ll ride for Team Australia in the Motocross of Nations. He also finished third overall today with finishes of 3/4.

In the 250 Lites class, defending National Champion Ryan Villipoto won both motos by large margins. Second was Villipoto’s team-mate and top competitor for this year’s championship chase, Ben Townley. Ben scored 2/2. Third overall went to Jason Lawrence, who finished 3/3.

Happy Father’s Day 2007!
