| Steel City Raceway Langston victorious in 450 Motocross, Villopoto strong in 250 MX Lites … 450 Motocross Class: Grant Langston, making a strong bid towards the end of the season to win his first National Championship in the ‘big bore’ class, won the overall today with moto finishes of 2/1. Second overall went to Mike Alessi, who went 3/1. Third overall was Kevin Windham, with finishes of 3/2. Grant Langston now takes over the points lead! Andrew Short is two points behind him, and Tim Ferry is two points behind Short, with M Alessi six points behind Ferry. Just like the 250 class, it looks like the championship will come down to the wire at the season finale at Glen Helen in San Bernardino CA. Notes: James Stewart is done for the season. He fell at the Washougal race, injuring his knee. And although he has tried to tough it out, he and his doctors have determined that surgery to repair the knee is the best course of action. (You can read the official press release in our News section). Tim Ferry will be taking James place on the USA’s 2007 Motocross of Nations team. Mike Alessi’s win in the first moto was the first ever for him and KTM in the 450 class. 250 Motocross Lites Class: Defending 250 Lites Champion Ryan Villopoto won the overall victory with moto finishes of 3/1. And he went thru a lot to do it! He was involved in a first moto, first corner crash, running outside the top 25 after the completion of the first lap. But he got up, rode strong, and with another small fall, came all the way back to third in the moto. In the second moto, Ryan won fairly easily. Ryan takes over the points lead from Ben Townley, with two events left in the series Second overall today went to Ben Townley. And he earned it just as well! He was involved in the big first moto, first corner crash, and was outside the top 25 at the end of the first lap. Ben battled and worked his way up to sixth by the end of the moto. In the second moto, he finished runner-up to Villopoto. Third overall (and making it another Pro Circuit sweep) was Brett Metcalfe with 8/3 finishes. Notes: Broc Hepler won the first moto, but DNF the second moto. The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team introduced another ‘roookie’ that made his pro debut this weekend – Austin Stroupe. He finished 2/12. |
