Namur – one word says it all

Namur – one word says it all

One word says it all to an avid motocross fan: Namur.

The famous Citadelle circuit overlooks the town of Namur in Belgium. They’ve been having races there since the 40’s. The track starts at the top of the fortification in an arena built in the 13th century. Then it heads into the trees, the track very narrow at times. The track drops out onto pavement at the bottom, up a jump in front of an outdoor cafe, and onto a cobblestone road.

It’s a very special place, and very unique to motocross.

Thanks to Matteo & Hendrik Boxy

Last Race Ever

Last Race Ever

Typical of the baked adobe hills and the chaparral brush of southern California, historic Carlsbad Raceway has run it’s last race – over 40 years of racing. Population growth and commercial building have done it in.

Certain words and phrases come to mind if you grew up around motocross during it’s heyday: United States Grand Prix. Annual. Father’s Day. 500cc. Bel Ray. Hang Ten. The Freeway. The Ledge. Rattlesnake Gulch. ABC Wide World of Sports. De Coster. Lackey. Mikkola. Wolsink. Moates. Johnson. Glover. Bailey. Ward. Blue groove. CMC. Commotion by the Ocean. Superbikers. And thousands of local races.

It’s over now.
