2002 Motocross des Nations to be held in California

Latest news update: July 7 – the AMA has announced the team riders for the USA. It will be Ricky Carmichael, Tim Ferry, and Mike LaRocco.
The 2002 Motocross des Nations will take place at Competition Park in southern California on September 29. The event will be run according to a new format.

New format for 2002:
Each country can enter three riders
Each rider can ride whatever motorcycle he wants (125, 250 or 500)
No more automatically qualified countries
Maximum 24 teams qualify for the Sunday program
Semi-Final 1 & 2 will be 30 minutes + 2 laps
In each Semi-Final the 2 best results of each country will count
Nations placed 1 to 6 qualify for the A-Final
Nations placed 7 to 12 qualify for the B-Final
A-Final (30 minutes + 2 laps, max. 36 riders)
B-Final (30 minutes + 2 laps, max. 36 riders)
In the Finals, the 2 best results of each Nation will count
A time table for this format will be established according to the demands of TV

Riders are $15 to get in
There are several routes to get there:
From Los Angeles: Take 10 Freeway East, exit Hwy 79 in Beaumont, turn right (south) at exit and head down Lamb’s Canyon. Left on Ramona Blvd, which is one block south of Ramona Expressway, entrance is about 500 yards from corner.
or
Take 60 East, exit Gilman Springs Road, follow that road for about 10 miles, then turn right on Sanderson Ave. onramp toward Hemet/San Jacinto. Left on Ramona Blvd, which is one block south of Ramona Expressway, entrance is about 500 yards from corner.
From San Diego: Take Highway 15 North, exit Winchester Highway in Temecula, turn right and follow that road for about 15 miles. Turn right on Domenigoni Parkway, left on Sanderson Avenue about 5 miles to Ramona Blvd. Turn right on Ramona Blvd, entrance is about 500 yards from corner.
From Orange County/Corona: Take Highway 91 East to Van Buren Exit and turn right on Van Buren and follow that road for about 10 miles. Take 215 Freeway south to Ramona Expressway. Turn left at exit and follow this road for about 12 miles. Turn right on Sanderson and then left on Ramona Blvd, entrance is about 500 yards from corner.
